Question about Acer Aspire Computers & Internet
I cannot boot up into windows, I cannot get into BIOS. I can only keep getting the message "SMART Failure predicted on hard disk 4: WDC WD5000BEVT-24A0RT0-(S1) WARNING: Immediately back-up your data & replace your HDD. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue." I press F1, & it restarts the cycle. I couldnt back up anything if I wanted to. I can never even see Windows attempting to load, & I've been trying to reformat my Windows for like a month now. Boot up problems left right & centre. Acer Aspire 7551 Laptop. Windows 7.

SOURCE: Laptop will not boot up
THis error is telling you that there's a problem with yoru laptop hard driver where the operating system is installed that's why it cannot boot, so the best thing to do here is to replace the hard drive then after that , if you have important file on that old hard drive from your laptop you can buy a hard drive enclosure and make the old hard drive a external drive and that way you should be able to retrive some of your data that is save on it.........
Hope that helps.......

that will be expensive. i just went to microcenter and asked them, they said many hundreds of dollars just to look at it, then like 1600 for the cheapest recovery...
1. stop using it immediately. (after an error like that, you may have only minutes of life left on it)
2. get a 25 dollar external enclosure to put the drive into. If it's IDE make sure you get an IDE enclosure, if SATA, get SATA compat. external enclosure.
3. get another computer, o rgo to a friends house, etc, and try to read your data on their computer after plugging in your hard drive inside the external enclosure.
4. if you can see it, rush like mad to copy the data thats important to your friends computer before the drive is 100% dead.
microcenter and similar stores have external hard drives at $129 dollars for a terabyte. BUY ONE! :-)
PS: rumors go around that if you freeze the hard drive in your freezer for an hour, it helps get the data off, dont know if this is in fact true. Once the drive is dead, it's dead. You cant do much about it unless youre willing to part with a lot of money.

Well this error message means that the automatic drive checking software that runs all the time has detected that the drive is failing, either the electronics or the media. You need to backup any data to a DVD or external drive. The press F1, is so you can continue on and do so. You can burn/copy the data to DVD or copy to a USB hard Drive. Then you will need to get a new drive and reinstall your Operating System & data again.

SMART failure error means your hard drive is dying and there is no way to make it working for a longer period of time.
Soon, your hard drive will fail permanently and won't give second chance to work and so prevents you to access any of your important data.
So, before disaster strikes, you're highly recommended to backup and replace your hard drive as soon as you can. Otherwise, you might be in big trouble.
Hope it helps!!
