SOURCE: Satellite L675D-S7040 white screen is

General faults when a laptop has a white screen;

1) Video cable from motherboard to LCD screen has a loose connection.

1A) Video cable may be faulty. (LVDS Cable)

2) Defective LCD screen

3) Defective motherboard, IF, the laptop is using Integrated Graphics, and Not a removable graphics card. Otherwise the problem is the graphics card. (VGA Board)

[If the GPU is an AMD M880G chipset, your laptop is using Integrated Graphics.
Otherwise it's an AMD Mobility Radeon HD5470/HD5650 (GDDR3 graphics ram memory, and 1GB of it)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_chipsets#A-Link_Express_III

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Mobility_Radeon_HD_5xxx_Series

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

A): Video Cable (LVDS Cable)
1) Check to see if the video cable is plugged in tightly on both connections. Both on the motherboard side, and the LCD screen side.

2) Check the sheathing of the video cable (LVDS Cable) to see if there is apparent damage.
Perform a continuity check of the video cable's individual leads. (Wires)

(Use a multimeter set to Ohms. An economical multimeter can be purchased for around $5 to $10.
Available at a lot of stores. Auto parts stores carry them.
The red probe lead is the Positive lead.
The black probe lead is the Negative lead.

The multimeter the function knob is set to 1K, or the Oms symbol. ?
Follow the lead in the LVDS cable, and connect the probes to the ends of the lead.
Positive probe to one side of the lead, Negative probe to the other side of the lead. {Wire}

No reading indicates a break in the wire. An open wire.
Also while hooked up have a helper move the cable around. Look for an intermittent short.
If found defective replace the video cable. {LVDS cable}
You can find a replacement cable on the internet)

[ I will include a link to a free Service Manual at the end of this solution. Shows you how to properly disassemble, and reassemble. I will also include a pictorial guide, with brief instructions, but on the Satellite L645D series. Gives you more of an idea of disassembling/reassembling for your L675D series ]

B: LCD Screen:
For this diagnoses you'll need a VGA monitor.
Can be a CRT monitor (Looks like a small TV), or an LCD flat screen with a VGA connector, and a VGA cable connected to it.

Laptop off, monitor off, plug the VGA monitor's cable into the VGA connector on the back of the laptop,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Turn the monitor on. Wait until the monitor comes up. (CRT style) Turn the laptop on.
Press, and hold down on the Fn key. (Bottom left corner next to the CTRL key)
Tap the F5 key.

This is the toggle-over display key.
You can set the display to just the laptop's LCD screen, Or to an external monitor, Or both.

Graphics comes up on external monitor? (VGA monitor)
GPU is good. Problem with the video cable, or LCD screen.

No display?
Problem with the GPU.
If it's Integrated the motherboard will need to be replaced.

I'm betting it's a faulty video cable.

Toshiba satellite L675D-S7049 wont power up at all just hear it powering up and nothing

Beeps usually mean that the bios detected a problem with the hardware. It could be the processor, memory, video card, or something else. It all depends on how long or short the beeps are and in what sequence they are in.

If you could respond with the length and sequence of the beeps, a more definitive soloution can be reached.

That is never good. Replace the LCD screen the best way to inspect the integrated video card is to plug it into another VGA monitor to make sure it is not the video card. Take this in if you have never attempted this fix. John

Satellite L655D-S5093 keyboard removal

This is the User's Manual for the L655-S5098 laptop:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=2759985&rpn=PSK2CU&modelFilter=L655-S5098&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663

Predictably, its useless when performing maintenance such as keyboard replacement, but page 82 indicates that this laptop supports "most USB-compatible [external] keyboards", so, while the chicklet keyboard is down, you can boot and use the system with a workaround USB keyboard.

I could not find an L655-S5093 laptop model on the Toshiba support web site, which is found at http://www.pcsupport.toshiba.com

Computer shut down and red light flashing five times then three second pause and repeats

According to the troubleshooting guide for this model, the red light flashing five times indicates a problem in the RAM (memory), before the video subsystem is ready. You may just need to open the case and make sure the memory sticks are fully locked in their slots. If you just added new memory, it might not match the required specs.

Blank screen and the power LED flashes Red five times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the computer beeps five times. (Beeps stop after fifth iteration but LEDs continue flashing.)

Cause Pre-video memory error.

Solution
1.
Reseat DIMMs. Power on the system.

2. Replace DIMMs one at a time to isolate the faulty module.

3. Replace third-party memory with HP memory.
4. Replace the system board.

I do not believe Toshiba sells recovery discs, instead they have a utility called Toshiba recovery disc creator. Which should already be on your laptop if not download from Toshiba website.
