Noise started out of the blue. Fridge had been sitting without anyone opening it for days. I have cut the ice-maker off.... noise still happening. Sounds louder than I have ever heard it.. so I don't think it is the Quick freeze.
It is most likely your circulation fan in the freezer. Normally the fan stops when you open the door. It is a normal operation. Check to make sure that the fan is not blocked by frozen items or that the fan doesn't have an ice build up. On some models the fans stops when you open the door and starts a few minutes later after you close the door.

The noise is so loud in mine that it wakes me up in the middle of the night from another floor in the house. I bought this fridge in 2005, and 3 months after the 3-year service contract expired, this started. Last night it apparently stopped the freezer from working--I had huge icicles hanging from the ice bin this morning.
