Now you have to deside weather you want to buy a U.S.B. floppy Drive or U.S.B. optical drive.
Both has to work ,but for a try if you have any existing drive ,just buy a external U.S.B. casing and fit your or any existing drive in it.Just try with it.This is more costeffective solution

It is very simple to install a new internal DVD/RW. There is only one screw on the bottom of the laptop that holds the module in. Remove that screw, slide the old unit out, and insert a new rom. Don't forget to replace the retaining screw.

Hope this will solve your problem, and please feel free to rate this advice.

Good luck

Install dvd drive on compaq presario v5000

If you need to ask "how", you should take it to a qualified professional technician. Or, $30 is the price for an external CD/DVD-writer that connects via USB.

Or, read: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=499847&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en

for "how-to" information on your notebook computer.

Can i use any dvd writer driver in a gateway 4026gz

This may be a better and much cheaper solution:

You can buy any brand of external CD/DVD writer and connect it to your notebook with a usb cable and it will work perfectly. You notebook should even install all the drivers it needs to run automatically. Just download a great FREE program called Imgburn and you can be burning CD's and DVD's in no time.

You can get a good deal on external CD/DVD burners here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007595%20600003509&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=RATING&PageSize=20

You can get FREE Imgburn here:

Dvd instalation

That's the limiting factor with laptops. You're bound to what the manufacturer provides or compatible 3rd party components. Different interface means not compatible (internally). You can try buying a Compaq DVD/RW for the Armanda, or buying an external DVD/RW that meets your needs.

Again, there's not too much freedom with parts when it comes to laptops.

External dvd writer

You would be able to boot from the external drive but you will not be able to run an operating system from it. It would allow you to install another operating system if that is what you mean? If i understand you correctly though, you would like to say perhaps, have windows xp on your laptop and maybe run windows vista on your external? Maybe get to choose which one to run. This is not possible. Sorry. I hope this helps!

USB DVD ROM no detected

You need XP service pack 2 or later installed on your notebook. Does your notebook detect other USB drvices, if not your USB port on the PC is gone. If the USB prt is working and you have XP service pack 2 installed then you probably got a bum DVD drive so return it and get another.
