Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
From what you've described in your question, it sounds very likely that you have a blockage somewhere between the cleaner head and the bin. Please follow the steps shown in the video above to locate any obstructions from the cleaner head, and to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
Once you've done this, it's also a good idea to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide for help locating blockages in the internal hose:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc50/dc50-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc50/dc50-clearing-the-brush-bar-video/redirect-to-internal-hose/check-the-internal-hosedc50
If you would like any further advice from one of our experts after you've tried this, you can reach our freephone UK Helpline on 0800 298 0298. We're available from 7am-10pm, 7 days a week.
Best wishes,

SOURCE: Eureka Altima Bagless Upright Brush is not spinning

You probably just have a broken belt. The belt needs to be changed about every 6 months regardless. I believe yours takes a style EXT U(Extended life upright), or a regular Eureka "U" belt works fine too.

SOURCE: The brush does not spin when making contact with carpeting

I tried the electrical-tape-around-the-wooden-spindle technique. After a minute or so, it's back to functioning normally.

SOURCE: the carpet brush attachement loses power while vacuuming

I have seen this many times. It is either a bad connection or a break in the wire. Turn it on and flex the wire and connection until you can reproduce it dependably. Then you will know what it is and where.
It is very aggravating. You need to fix it soon, before you take to jumping up and down on it and bust the wand and the power head also.

SOURCE: In Carpet setting, the vacuum brush does not spin

I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.

SOURCE: loud noise when I start the vacuum in carpet position

It's most likely the Belt Slip Protection Dyson uses to prevent the user from having to replace belts. I recently bought a Dyson and love it other than it literally sits there and makes horrible noises 80% of the time. I completely disassembled the vacuum and found that the spring they used for this belt slip protection is WAY too weak. The weak spring seems to let the belt slip protection pop off way too frequently and unnecessarily. I stretched the spring back out and whammy no more horrible clanking. Of course it'll take you a couple of hours, some good tools and some serious ingenuity to get to where the parts are but problem solved. It'll still ratchet when picking up a sock or dog toy or something, but sitting there ratcheting on short dense carpet is unacceptable. Hope this helps!!!

Vacuum works quietly and well when using the wand attachment, as soon as it is lowered into 'floor vacuuming' position it makes a very loud noise but doesn't seem to lose suction.

Hi Ismaias, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you're describing sounds unusual. If you think the noise coming from the cleaner head and brush bar is excessively loud, you might like to follow the steps shown in the video below to make sure nothing is jamming or obstructing the brush bar:

If you're confident there are no obstructions, but your machine is still sounding much louder than it should be, please do not continue to use your machine. At this point, it would be best to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly so we can provide further assistance. If a repair or a replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

When you have your DC50 to hand, please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson dc 50 is notsucking intothe canister

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I can confirm that it's normal for dust and debris inside the clear bin not to spin. There are ribs called 'baffles' at the base of the clear bin, which capture debris and force it to settle.

However if the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, there may be a blockage in the cleaner head, internal hose or airways. This is quick and easy to check for and resolve, just follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc50/dc50-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usualdc50/dc50-clearing-the-brush-bar-video

You may also want to give the two lifetime filters a wash using cold water without detergent. In normal use we recommend washing the filters at least once a month. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine.

I'm confident removing any blockages and giving the filters a wash will restore full performance to your DC50. But if you'd like some further help from our experts after giving this a try, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson DC 50 Serialno AH6-UK-EHA1562A. rEQUIRE NEW BLACK BRUSHES, D I NEED TO BUY A NEW ASSEMBLY OR CAN i BUY THE BRUSHES?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC50's brush bar comes as a complete assembly. The soft black anti-static carbon fibre filaments aren't available as individual components.

However if the carbon fibre filaments on your DC50's brush bar are worn or damaged in some way, we may be able to help. If you can email a clear picture of the issue to me directly at help@dyson.co.uk, I'll be in touch as soon as possible to provide further assistance. If you can also include your full home address and post code, as well as your contact phone number and the date on which you purchased your machine, that would be very helpful to us.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Brush bar doesn't rotate.

Either the bearing in the rotating brush is bad and isn't allowing the brush to turn, or in the majority of cases, the belt is broken.

How do i know if my brush bar is bad or clutch?

Hi there,

Your DC07's brush control system is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if an obstruction is jamming the brushbar, preventing it from rotating. If your cleaner is not making a ratcheting sound in use, it's unlikely the brushbar or clutch need attention. However, if you're concerned that your cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, you should be able to resolve this easily by following the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

If you need any further assistance, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to identify the cause of the issue, and will be able to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

The vacuum makes an odd noise and is not picking up very well.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 Animal. If the cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, you may have a blockage in machine. The odd noise you describe may be the ratcheting sound the brush control system is designed to make to warn you that the brushbar is jammed.

The easiest way to check for and remove obstructions from the brushbar and airways is to follow the troubleshooting steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

This should help you identify and resolve your issue. However, if you've run through these checks and are still concerned, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack
