Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive Portable USB 2.0 60GB 5400rpm 480Mbps USB 2.0 USB 2.0 External (STIUSB2560FT) Hard Drive
AFTER 1 MONTH OF USE, MY COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE HARD DRIVE BEEING INSTALLED, I TRIED ON ANOTHER COMPUTER WITH THE SAME RESULTS, I HAVE VALUABLE INFO INSIDE, WHAT SHOULD I DO????
My external hard drive is not recognized by my PC but when I hoock it up to an other pc it works ok . so is there a way to make it work ?
Or I shall reformat the PC?

Try it on another computer. After using the same drive for 6 months on my Dell I had to move my computer. After the move it would not recognize it. I brought it home and hooked it to my Sony and it recognized it immediately. I am still in contact with Simple tech to find a solution.

First, check the warranty status. They should give you a replacement. The following will probably void your warranty... This external drive probably houses a standard hard drive used in a desktop computer. If you don't mind voiding your warranty, you could disassemble the protective "shell" and check to see that the cabling to the drive is properly attached. I've seen a external drive which the interface cable was partially unattached. If all looks OK here, you could remove the actual hard drive and try hooking it up to a standard desktop computer. If you or a friend is reasonably tech savvy, such is a plus. It could be set as a secondary drive, and then you could see if files could be accessed. If nothing above works, then your outlook is bleak. There are businesses specializing in file recovery from a dead drive, but it is expensive.
