The power supply system will become more stable in case of ripple. That is all. No other effects.

The fault to your TV might not due to a defective capacitor. A higher capacitance valued capacitor, won't do nothing wrong. But as the capacitance value increases, the size of the capacitor will too increase. That's all. Check the fuse at the power supply regulator board. If it is found opened, make sure that something wrong with the power supply regulator board. Without rectifying the fault, never replace a fuse, as it will make things worse. If you wish to get more details, check this link. Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Hello, how you describe it hits of the power supply voltage, usually indicates that capacitor electrolytes broken, their job to filter the port voltages of power supply. Sometimes the swelling can be seen at the top of capacitors. To remove them from the board soldering equipment is required. Absorbing tin, tin. While replacing the capacitors is important bring them to table under the correct polarity. Make sure the correct value of the container and size of voltage that marked on the capacitors . If its too complex to repair the power supply. Should replace the entire power supply. Worthwhile to review the level and stability of the exit voltage of the power supply before buying. Good luck!

Tv want come on but before that happen tv had a sound but no picture

Hmm dont know what model or tv you have but generally i would say on a lcd television I would suspect filter capacitors in power supply first. next would be a defective inverter board. Depending on size and brand the inverter board and power supply board maybe combined. If its a plasma then power supply filter capacitors or possible z sustain board failure.

Please check the horizontal output transistor for leak, base-emitter. Change it.If there is any kind of short in the board, the power supply will sense int and will shuts down. Line out put transformer [LOT] may also suspect. On the secondary supply stage from LOT, the secondary power supply section, check all the rectifier diodes, and its filter capacitors for leak. Even a slight leak will effect the proper function of the set. Check it with good qulaity analongue multimeter, with setting it to meg ohms range; check the suspected componets off board. Likewise check the primary rectified DC voltage at SMPS stage. It should be aroung 380V DC accross main filter capacitor. If it is not check the main filter capacitor [usually 330Mfd 450V] for low capacity. and check the four main rectifier diodes.

I have a pltv 3750 the power light comes on but no picture or sound what could be the problem

It could be a blown filter capacitor in the power supply. It's a pretty common occurrence with TVs and video game consoles. If you wish, you can open up the power supply (assuming it's outside of the unit. If not, then open the set and follow the power cord until it meets a board.) . Check the capacitors (if you don't know what they are, they look mostly like a silo. A cylinder that's usually around the size of your thumb or even larger, for filters.); if you notice any visible holes or any puddle of black-ish brown-ish stuff around it, then it's blown and needs to be replaced.

Shrinking horizontal screen image appears with black border approx 1/2" on both sides

The most likely cause is a dried up main filter capacitor. Once the effective capacitance drops low enough, 120 Hz (or 100 Hz in countries with 50 Hz power) ripple will make its way into the regulated DC supply (assuming full wave rectification).

Another likely cause of similar symptoms is a defective low voltage regulator allowing excessive ripple. The regulator IC could be bad or filter capacitor following the IC could be dried up.

The best approach to testing the capacitors is to clip a good capacitor of approximately the same uF rating and at least the same voltage rating across the suspect capacitor (with the power off). A capacitor meter can also be used but the capacitor may need to be removed from the circuit.

Once the capacitors have been confirmed to be good, voltage measurements on the regulator should be able to narrow down the problem to a bad IC or other component.

Good day.

Refering to to mr walts inquiry and if it is, maybe you are having some issues in your vertical circuitry. It may be loose that it needs to be resoldered and other filter capacitors within the vertical section.
