Elna Funstyler, type 3003 FS. The straight stitch begins then sucks material down into the bobbin area and knots up. I've tried all the manual's suggestions and nothing seems to work.

Be sure to use a brand new sharp needle that is compatible with the thread and fabric (see link below). The type of needle may need a larger scarf/groove to shield the thread (ie, top stitch or embroidery) and pierce the fabric easier.

If your machine has the option for a straight-stitch (vs zig-zag) needle plate, you may want to try using that. The small needle hole will restrict the fabric from being pushed down into the bobbin area.

Looking for an instruction manual for a 30 year old elna sewing machine, not sure about the model number

Hi Mary,
check out the machine info plate, it is usually near the power inlet on the side below the flywheel. Hopefully if it is legible there will be a 2 digit number which is the Elna model. There is also the very early model called "1" or Grasshopper, this is a bright green beauty with a knee control. And a model after that with a six digit model code.

If you are in the USA, you may want to contact the White Sewing Center, www.whitesewingcenter.com, he is the guru for all things early Swiss Elna including stocks of very old spares and manuals.

My other suggestion is that you join the Yahoo newsgroup called Elna Heirlooms, this is a fantastic group of vintage Elna owners who share lots of information and are very knowledgeable. Just go to www.yahoo.com, join up, then go to Groups and search for "Elna Heirlooms". The moderator will need to approve you as a member initially, then you can peruse messages and check out the files, this is such a great source of information on these beautifully engineered machines.

Can you supply a zig-zag needle plate for Elna computer sewing machine please?

This site doesn't sell parts - it just helps with information.

Firstly, you need to post what model Elna as Tavarao Switzerland made several compuerised models, the 5000,7000, 9000, and the current Elna range are mostly computerised models now.

To find the part you need, identify your model number by looking on the plate near the power inlet on the side of the machine.

You could call a local Elna dealership, search Yellow Pages or online. Or the Elna head office in your country is often a great place to start. go to www.elna.com and then enter your country, then go to that website. Then find the Contact Us page to see their phone number and or email address. Often best to go to the source first off rather than be told that parts arent available when they may well still be able to be purchased.

Do I need the model no. to order a manuel. For the Elnasuper is this a model no. 7131 ?

The Swiss Elnas included several models called "Supermatic" and SU so it is good to identify your machine by the model number.

If you look at the Identification plate on the machine it should have a 2 digit model code and a serial number.

However, one of the very early machines was called a 722010.

If you browse www.whitesewingcenter.com you may find your manual available there. He is the Swiss Elna guru for old parts and accessories.

I have an Elna Funstyler sewing machine and when i sew zig zag the bobbin thread shows up on top, have tried changing tension and doesn't help. Is there any way to oil this machine? Instruction manual say...

If your thread tension is OK and u have correctly threaded machine, I would check manual for first the right bobbin and put in machine right. I have have issues from badly wound bobbins too. If you have replaced correct needle and your fabric, thread and tension are good, I would check manual for the right bobbin tension. Wish I knew more to help......

Sewing Machine: loose stitch that's easy to pull out.

Check that the upper and lower threading are correct. Check that the thread has tension from the bobbin case.
