If you are pulling it all the way back, that is the STOP position and is normal. If you are only pulling it part way back, then your idle is set too slow

How to adjust governor controls on 13 hp techumseh engine fitted on 45 in cub cadet snowblower

At the base of the governor arm is a screw, loosen the screw and move the arm approx, 90 degrees. Allow the engine to come to a steady idle then tighten, the move the throttle up and check for a smooth exceleration. it may take a little back and forth but this should get you there.

Briggs/Stratton 23 hp vtwin max rpm and how to adjust it.

If you bend the tab down a little on the larger of the two springs, in the direction of adding tension, it will raise rpm. Be careful not to bend too much or your engine will not fully return to idle.

How to adjust a fuel governor for a 3750 watt coleman generator

With parts list in hand, look at reference #21 governor arm and reference 89/90 adjustment screw. This adjustment will increase decrease engine speed. I would use a meter with hz setting to set engine speed to achieve 60 cycles. Sixty cycles on the meter would indicate that the engine is turning 3600 rpm which is max. If all working correctly, voltage should be around 120v at 3600 rpm and 60 cycles. Good luck

Craftmans 10 hp ohv engine generator it starts and wont idle it runs wide it a bad governor?

Make sure the throttle shaft is not stuck in the wide open position. You may also make sure the throttle plate is attached to the shaft, these have been know to come loose and if the shaft moves the plate does not move with it. You may have an internal governor problem, but it is best to eliminate all outside possibilities before pulling the engine down. There is also a "static" adjustment that can be made to the governor but you may want to see a service manual to perform that operation.

The govenor rod cannot be adjusted. The springs are intact. Motor revs up but will not idle down. It is 23 HP.

Just guessing here, but if there is no control of the throttle and the engine over revs, then more than likely the governor control is broke. Briggs if famous for that problem. Governor is around 25 dollars and a lower crankcase gasket. Requires the engine to be pulled, lower crankcase removed, remove all pieces of old governor and then re assemble with new governor and gasket.////Before doing all this check that both springs are on the governor on the exterior of motor. If you manually hold the governor arm back, counterclockwise, and it still revs, then you need to replace governor. Don't let it rev for long or it with throw a pushrod or worse. good luck
