I have a problem, I want to add a photocell to a light, here is the setup, there is a capacitor with 2 wires coming from it, one is free, the other goes to the ballast, then 3 wires on the ballast, to hook...

1) Photocell needs to be wired on incoming power line.
The photocell is a switch, and the switch is powered by incoming voltage... 120V, 240V, 277V, etc.

2) Add comment and describe voltage and how the light is powered.

I have the same problem listed above. I bought a touch and glow photocell at Lowes to go along with a yard lamp with lights on three arms. It is wired exactly as directed. Black to black, power source...

You have 120volt photocell.

Wiring sounds correct.
Lights are on all the time, even in daylight.
How is the power by-passing the photocell shut-off?
Disconnect ground wire to make sure there is not a ground fault causing circuit to complete on ground wire.
Otherwise the photocell might be bad.

Is the K1121 a two or three wire device?

Photocells are always 3-wire. The photocell switch has to be powered continuously, while power going to the load is turned on only when switch turns on.
Intermatic K1100 pages says: "three 6 in. color-coded leads"
http://www.intermatic.com/products/ec%204%20layer/photo%20controls/k1100%20k1200%20series%20relay%20type/k1100%20and%20k1200%20series%20relay%20type.aspx

Same 3-wires are required when photocell controls 120Volt or 240volt.

The lights do not go off ?? Is it a bad photocell? They are on all day..and night..

Photocells go bad.
If photocell was working before and stopped working, then photocell is bad.
If photocell never worked, then check wiring.
I buy cheap 120Volt photocells at home center, and when they go bad, buy same brand again, and return bad one in new package if bad one still looks new.

Intermatic has 120V and 240V photocells.

I would like a wiring diagram for an outdoor receptacle controlled by a photocell. Photo cell has 1 each black wire, red wire and white wire.

If I understand correctly, you want to add a photocell to existing receptacle.

Start by looking at receptacle:
Receptacle has 3 different colored screws.
Green screw for bare ground wire
Brass screws with black Hot wire connected.
Silver screws with white Neutral wire.

How to wire photocell to receptacle.
Remove black Hot wire off of brass screw and connect black wire to photocell-black wire. This will power the photocell switch.
Connect photocell-red wire to brass screw on receptacle. This will turn receptacle on-off whenever photocell switch turns on-off.
Connect photocell-white wire to silver screw, and this will complete circuit to photocell switch so the switch is able to operate.
All white Neutral wires are connected to silver screws.

Wireing diagram do not no were thay go three wires

K4221C photo cell page at Intermatic:
http://www.intermatic.com/products/photo%20controls/commercial%20%20industrial/stem%20%20swivel%20mount%20-%20thermal%20type.aspx

Photocell has black, white and red wires on photocell.
Black goes to Hot from breaker.
White goes to Neutral from breaker box
Red goes to Load (light)

Electricians don't guess, they test.
You should have one wire coming from breaker box, and another set of wires going to light.
Separate wires for testing.
Since you are outdoors, stand on dry boards and tape tester leads to wood sticks to keep hands away from power.
Turn power ON
Test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on hot wire. This wire should be black.
Hot wire connects to photocell black

Hot is identified.
Test Hot wire to all wires except bare ground.
Tester lights up on neutral. This wire should be white.
Neutral wire connects to photocell white

Now the other cable goes to Load. This cable has a black and white wire.
Connect photocell red to black Load wire
Connect white Load wire to Neutral, along with photocell white.

Ground wires are twisted together.

I want to wire a photocell to overide my T101 timer for cloudy overcast days. Please provide a wiring diagram. Thank you

You need to come off the line side of the clock to feed your photocell. And then from the load side of the photocell you can feed to the load side of the time clock. Leave the time clock wired the way it is now. What this will do is feed the light with the photocell or the time clock, but keep in mind by doing this the light will always remain on when it is dark. There is no other way to do it.

Lights are on in daylight

if it is a two wire photo cell ( as opposed to a three wire) then the load on the cell is very important check the instructions lots of load sensative photo cells won't work with low voltage lighting or led lights, good luck

Photocell and circuit breaker

Hi, Here is my clarification of the instructions for you. The photocell must be protected by at least a 10 amp circuit breaker. The photocell may be installed next to the light fixture. ( not the breaker). Good Luck, this should Fixya!
