Question about Miele s558 Silver Moon Vacuum
I've had my Miele Silver Moon for about 15 years, and the suction power seems significantly diminished from what it used to be. The filters are clean, I change Miele-brand bags regularly, the motor sounds fine and the hose isn't blocked in any way. Any idea what could be causing the diminished suction power? Could it simply be the age of the motor, despite the fact that it sounds okay? Thanks in advance for your advice!
If there's no blockages and filters all OK it's probably the suction fan that as worn down and not creating as much suction..

There is an electronic circuit board on the motor that may have gone bad and will have to replaced, part # 06836740 and sells for around $75.00, for model S516. But if this a S316, then it could be the speed control mounted on the motor, Part # 04416342 and sells for around $83.00. Both of these models are Cat Naad Dog so you need the model number berfore you order a part.

Thank you JonahBegone!
My 4 years old Silver Moon has been power down off and on for a couple of months, but all of sudden it kept doing it. Then the power won't turn on when I plugged it in ( this turns out to be another problem, see my other posting). I took your advice on taking the hose and handle apart. I unscrewed the 5 screws, but can't pull the handle apart to look inside. I was able to see the 3 metal contact on the hose that you mentioned through a 1/4 inch gap when I forced the handle apart. I cleaned the black stuff off through the little gap by rotating the hose a few times. Then magically, my power down problem also went away. Thank you once again.

This is a problem with the hose, and unfortunately it will require replacement of the entire assembly.
The SES-125 hoses produced in the general vicinity of late 2002 had a tendency to start building up static and kicking the motor off after a few years. The problem was rectified, and the more current hoses do not have this problem.
Head to your friendly neighborhood Miele dealer and get a new hose, and this problem will not occur again.

SOURCE: no suction
well, it actually sounds like there is a blockage. Try removing your hose and dropping something through it, like a quqrter. If it comes through, no clog. If it is clogged, I believe that machine has a blower on the upper part of the cleaner (maybe in the bag compartment towards the top. You can take out the filter holder and plug the hose in there and run the unit . Does the blockage come out? If not, Try shaking the hose, or you can put a stiff wire in it to try to free it. Do not run water through it. If there is no blockage at all, then you will probably need to take it to a service center. But I am pretty confident that we are looking at a clog situation. Let me know if this fixesya! Thanks, Rene (vacuum Doctor)

This unit comes with a silence setting in the system. As a result of your taking the unit apart you might have come in contact with this setting and tampered it. The silence setting combines the lowest noise output with the ideal power level for optimum cleaning results. This setting usually becomes activated when you switch the unit to energy saver mode.
Although with the 2200W of power which the motor boasts of if during your re-assembly you didnt cover the unit well this could have also brought about a discrepancy in the noise reduction method which the unit was assembled originally.
As you said there is no problem with your unit as it works excellently but the manner in which you re-assembled it has a space which allows the engine noise out and this is the problem why the unit has become so noisy.
Hope this support has been helpful?
