Bought pair of 2GB chips to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite A135-4527 laptop to 4GB. When I installed chips, the system wouldn't boot. However, each of 2MB the chips works fine by itself. I checked the memory slot and each of the mods works in either of the two slots alone, but when I combine them, the system won't boot. I checked the BIOS setup and saw nothing about the setting for the 2nd slot. Is there some kind of jumper on the motherboard that I need to set to get the full 4GB to be recognized by the system? Any suggestions?
Check the specs of your laptop, it may not support more then 2Gb of memory. A lot of laptops are limited to 2Gb of memory.Check the specs of your laptop, it may not support more then 2Gb of memory. A lot of laptops are limited to 2Gb of memory.

Looking at the specs, the max is 2gb for your Toshiba. According to this website, its only a 256mb ddr sdram. So my guess is you only have 1 slot for the ram. I'd go with a 2gb ram if you can afford it, 1gb just don't cut it in todays technology.
I believe its the PC2700 model, so find a 1gb or 2gb PC2700 @ 333mhz and you should be set.
I did some checking on your model laptop and it says that the maximum supported amount of ram is 2gb (2 x 1gb) and so since the slots are made for 1gb max each then thats all they will see even with bigger 2gb chips installed
Number of Slots:
Slot 1
Slot 2
Normally you will find the 2 slots, one above the other.
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-4200 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory. Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules. Make sure that both are fully seated prior to powering up the laptop.
First you have to determine whether this model can support 4Gb or memory.
All laptops use the same memory. SODIMM (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module) chips are readily available. It's actually quite easy to upgrade. First remove the small piece of the casing that covers the top part of the keyboard. This should just snap off. Then you should find some screws holding the top of the keyboard to the case. Once you remove these, the keyboard will easily pop out. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable connector leading to the keyboard. Then you should have access to the RAM chips.
Therefore, the only tool you really need is a small phillips screwdriver. Be careful when handling the chips.
if i will suggest i think u can try a diff ram most times rams that r not compatible with each other may not run on a system. so to veriyfy that yr new 2gb ram pair is working try to install them one after the other that is, insert the first 2gb ram boot yr system if ok, shut down remove it n insert the other 2gb if it ok then they should work since it has been tested by the manufacturers n is written in the manual..
