Turning on the cooling starts with the thermostat, turn the thermostat to the cooling setting, and then set the temp. setting down below the room temp.
That is the basics,,

The evaporator coil is probably frozen too.The fan might of failed and it caused the evaporator coil to freeze along with the suction line. Based on what you said about hearing a noisy blower motor noise. I believe the blower motor failed and caused your problem. There's only a few things that cause freezing; 1. blocked or no airflow 2. low or loss of refrigerant. You have no airflow, most likely because of a defective blower motor.

My outside condenser fan seems to be noiser than some of the newer models, I have two blade fan. Is this just norman with a 10 year old system? My system is a UAMB-48

The bearings may be worn a little in the motor. This will cause a little bit of a whining sound when the unit is running. Eventually, (if this is the problem) the motor will quit and you will have to have a new motor.
Also, make sure the outdoor coil is clean. This coil is behind the fins that are on 3 sides of the unit. You can wash this coil out with a hose and sprayer. First, disconnect power before servicing. Mark

Need to find out how to remove and clean inside coil and replace without disturbing anything else.(lookslike everything is sautered in place)

Hello, in order to remove the coil it will require some work, you need to cut into the plenum first then either pump down the refrigerant into the condenser or recover the refrigerant. Then cut the line set close to the coil to remove the coil. If you are familiar with hvac work then it is pretty simple, however if you are not to familiar with it I would call a hvac to do the work.

How do i find coil size for a armstrong central air unit

Are you asking what indoor coil size you need to match your outdoor unit? If so the model number of the outdoor unit will have a number divisible by 12. example an 036 is a 3Ton a-c an o42 is a 3 1/2 Ton. Probably the numbers right after UAMB.
