You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

SOURCE: Key Board

Hi,

I'm not familiar with this laptop but all I have worked on in the past have a series of tabs along the top of the keyboard, usually I can use a jewellers screw driver to gently ease one tab back at a time and then slip in something like a credit card to keep the tab back.

Once you have all of the tabs held back you should be able to lift the keyboard out.

Hope this helps

Regards

Nick

SOURCE: I cannot enable the wireless connection

For the built-in wireless on this model (EVO N1000C) the key combination to enable/disable wireless is Fn + F2. If pressing the Fn and F2 keys together does not enable the wireless, it may be disabled in the BIOS.

If you need to check this, here are the instructions to enter the BIOS:
Turn off the computer. Power it on and immediately start tapping the F10 key about once per second until you see the BIOS screen.

SOURCE: Compaq EVO N1000C boots up to desktop, but the screen is not on.

How do you know that it boots all the way when you cannot see anything on the screen?

To check if the video card on the laptop is functioning properly, connect the laptop to an external monitor. When you boot up you may see Windows start on the monitor, if not press the Fn key plus one of the Function keys that switches (toggles) between the LCD and the external video (usually one of the keys from F3 to F8).
If you don't get a video image then the video card which is part of the motherboard, is faulty - it can't be repaired cheaply, usually requires a new motherboard.
If you get a video image on the monitor, then the LCD could be faulty or the LCD video and/or backlight connectors on the motherboard is not making proper electrical connection. Then it may be fixed by reseating them.

If you are using any word processing files, try looking for symbols under "insert" and you will find the pound sterling symbol in there.

How to get into the bios settings

Compaq Evo N1000C Notebook?

AS SOON AS you press the Power On button, start tapping on the F10 key.

If you hear beeps ignore them.
They are Stuck Key Error Code beeps, and it is you that is doing it.

The F10 key is supposed to be pressed when the Compaq logo comes up.
Problem is the window of opportunity to enter BIOS Setup, goes by
F-A-S-T!

The above circumvents the problem, and gets you into BIOS Setup

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Now I have one of my own................why are you going into BIOS Setup?

And another one..............have you ever been in BIOS Setup?
Know how to navigate around, and how to Save Changes?

Ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications

You can upgrade you memory to 2 x 512MB DDR PC2700 333MHz, and install pretty much any size 2.5" IDE hard drive you wish. Installing Vista will make this machine very very slow. Windows 7 would be better as it uses less resources. Ideally XP Pro would be better suited based on this boards specifications.

Can I upgrade 32 mb Video display of my compaq evo n1000c?

As the Video Card is integrated into the Motherboard for your Model, the only way to upgrade is to change the entire board with a larger integrated Video Card. I believe there is a board with a 64MB ATI Card available. Cost of this board replacement may be more than ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications.
