SOURCE: Need part for Quantaray QSX-DigiPro 8500

This is a longshot but it may well work if you can't get one from the manufacturer mailed to you for a reasonable price, there are mini tripods at most drugstores with the base plate and screw that are pretty cheap you may be able to take the screw from one of those and use it, they are all the same thread.

SOURCE: Problem with solidex tripod

ptolhatley,
If it is a standard professional tripod - they are sold without the head mechanism so you can pick the type and style that best suits your needs, such as for sports, portrait, or commercial photography. Most camera shops can show you samples of the different types. You can go online to get an idea of the range in price (be aware that they are as much as a standard tripod that has a built-in head).

How do you remove the pan head

That tripod was not designed to have the head removed. if you do get the head apart, there is no way to attach another head without lots of re-milling and work. Go to www.itripod.com and buy a Manfrotto tripod. these come without head and can easily be up fitted.

Panning Head came off of new Quantaray QSX 900TM Tri-monopod

It's supposed to come off.  There is a 1/4" screw stud on top of the monopod that it tightens onto.  This is how you change heads if you want to use a ball or other head.

Bogen Manfrotto 3047 head

Dear spiderinkart,
To get the camera to secure properly to the release plate make sure that the bolt is screwed entirely into the camera bottom and then there should be a larger knob that rotates around the bolt that tightens down to the camera body. What I do to get a really tight fit is point the arrow on the bottom of the release plate labeled lens (that arrow when properly mounted should be pointed towards the front of the lens) to a 45 degree angle to the left of the lens, then I snug down the knob, and then I grab the release plate and turn it until the lens arrow is aligned with the front of the lens. As far as quick releaseing the camera from the legs when secured on the release plate you should be able to pull the lever away from the head and it should simply release the camera with the plate attached.

Sincerely,
Agent Allan

Before the heart attack, check your lens. I believe its the D series lenses that need to be set to all the way open. I get this "err" alot, and then look down to see that Ive rotated the appature.
