Although there are some "home-brew" games and software out there this type of cartridge is largely used for illegally copying games. Some of the software available includes MP3 playback programs, movie players and PDA software so you can make use of these cartridges for legitimate purposes, however "home-brew" games vary in quality and so called ROM files are normally illegal copies of games/software that are subject to copyright licensing law.

Several web retailers sell them (and similar products) including some of the big name ones.
Unfortunately we cannot advertise retailers or give prices as that would constitute a quote, however I can tell you that this type of product usually retails for anything from approximately $80US (£40GBP) to approximately $100US (£50GBP). Shop around to find the best price. You'll find that both big name electronics/game retailers and small, specialist companies have several products of this type at varying prices.

The R4 was Made in 2004 and the production stopped in 2008. And DSi has Firmware that the R4 Will NOT Work with the R4. I advise you to use an R4i or something else.

Which kernal should I load for R4 Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSl/NDS)? There is an web address www.R4I-SDHC.com but when I log on this it is still not clear which to load. Also what are the steps I need...

Hi,

Click here, scroll to the bottom of the page and download the "English Kernel v1.8" (I'm assuming you want English).

1) Firstly connect your micro SD card and then extract all the files from the zip file and copy them all to the card.

2) Next put your .nds files, mp3 etc onto the SD card (anywhere in the root of the card is fine).

3) Put your SD card into the R4, pop it into the DS/DSL and that should be it.

Hope this helps, any problems feel free to message me.

Regards,
SOD69

I bought a ra(ndsl/nds ) for my ds lite and

Mine works fine!!
Download English 1.18 from the R4 website.
Unzip
You should have 4 files on your card
_system_
moonshell
_DS_MENU_DAT
_DS_MSH_NDS
you then add the .nds game files from wherever you get them from
Make sure the card is formatted first, ie there are no other files on it. try FAT. rather than FAT 32. I can't remember which but I've had no problems with either the card or the software, best thing since sliced bread, and it only cost me a tenner.

How to put the download gamesinto my memorycard, to my R4 [NDS]?

if you got a software disc with it put the files on to the micro sd card if you didnt then download files from r4s web site and put these on the micro sd card.

then download the nds files from the web (make sure they are ***.nds not zip files) then just put them on to the mem card. insert the mem card in to your r4 and happy playing.
