SOURCE: ps3 cooling fan

ummm.... Don't. Or just duct tape the new one two the back of the ps3, splice the wires and run them to your washer/dryer plug and stick the copper wire in the 220 connection (you will have to unplug your dryer but your ps3 wont overheat anymore).

SOURCE: ps3 fan doesnt work?

I have solution for all of you. You need to call sony at 1-800-345-7669. They will send you a box so you can place you unit in (ps3). If you got warrany on your ps3 they will ask you to send in a copy to varify that it is still in warrany. If it is then they will not charge you anything they will open up the system and see what the problem is either fix the ps3 or they will replace it with a refuribished one. Also you need to make sure that the warrany tag on the ps3 upper right side is still there or they will charge you 150 dollars. And if the serial on the back is removed they will not even service your unit. If you unit is not in warrany they will charge you 150 dollars. Wich is real good because they will dust the interior of it good luck everyone...

SOURCE: PS3 is freezing up

you can purchase a usb powered external fan that fixes to the back of the ps3 from ebay for less than $30 or 15 gbp.

i think attempting to replace the interior fan will invalidate sonys gaurantee ,if it still is under warranty.

lastly i would suggest the obvious and make sure you have you ps3 out in the open and not in an an enclosed environment like a shelf or
tv/video cabinet.also not on carpet, make sure all the vents are not blocked, i found for me the coolest position to run the ps3 is on its side away from other heat sources like plasma tv,video/dvd/sat/cable players.

My guess is its going to die soon. I would back up most of your stuff on a hard drive if possible. If it gets that far. I had this happen to my 40GB PS3 about a year ago. It turned on for 5 minutes then off. Soon after that it didn't turn on. And it was making really loud fan noises.
What are the specs of your PS3 and was it making loud fan noises before? Consider buying a new PS3 slim?
A quick guess that i just thought is try doing the fan test before turning it on. Turn Off PS3 completely (switch in back) Hold eject button and Turn on switch.

NOTE: This is dangerous and can harm the PS3.

Good Luck

Ps3 loud fan noise

Don't do anything your fan is just fine it's just running faster to keep it cool when you hear a clicking sound at high speed then you should be worried about it cause your fan is failing and should be replaced

After running my PS3 for a while to watch movies, the unit fan gets very loud, is this normal?

this shouldnt happen, the problem is the fan is blocked and needs clearing out, as the system gets hotter and the hot air needs to get out if dust is blocking this happening then the ps3 fan will make a loud noice,

try cleaning it with a DAMP cloth, not wet as you dont want to break it, try blowing into the fan as well, also clean the whole ps3 and the surrounding area so its dust free.

hopefully your fan isnt broke inside, if it is and your still within warranty take it back and get it fixed

good luck

hope this helped,

My ps3 overheats and shuts down

do the fans kick on and it gets really loud, if so you can just grab some thermal gel and take the ps3 apart and put thermal gel on the cpu's. if its not getting loud then you may have a bad fan or the motherboard controller for the fan is bad

Loud fan

i believe you need to clean out your ps3 of dust, usually dust clogs up the cooling system and decreases its efficency causing alot of strain on the fan due to it having to compensate so, try putting the "nozzle/tube" of a hoover (vacuum cleaner) over the air vents to **** the dust out,

You can take it apart to clean with a brush but this will most likely void all warrenty and your ps3 and you might not know how to put it back together so unless you know how to take apart a ps3 DON'T, otherwise do so at your own risk

When i turn on my ps3 it works fine until i play for about 15 minutes then a loud fan starts running.

Does the PS3 still work while the fan is running. This is typical with PS3, especially if the fan is dirty. It comes on and off to cool down the processors.
