I was trying to get my old family desktop to boot from cd (which it wouldn't) so I ended up resetting the CMOS to see if it would then read the disc. However now whenever I try to boot my desktop from a cd, usb or the hard drive I get a black screen with the curso flashing in the top left. Any help would be appreciated.
Eric .when you write BOOT do you mean you can't se windows logo do you have 1or 2 HDD's.when clear CMOS YOU RESETT BIOS.if you done that BIOS is empty.go into BIOS and set OPTIMAL DEFAULTS.FIRST GET THE SYSTEMCLOCK RIGHT TIME.

Testimonial: "Yes I can't see the windows logo. When I power on Compaq is written across the screen. After that is just the black screen with the blinking cursor. I only have one HDD. When I reseted it reset to defaults and I did enter the proper system time. I just cleared CMOS a second time to make sure I got the settings right. "

Go to the website hp.com in the support area & input your system name. Find the files to download the new bios to your computer. An executable file should have been downloaded to your computer. Double click on the file to install the new bios version. Your computer should reboot.

We had the same problem and tried all of the drivers & even the expired link here, but then went back and discovered the PRO 100 drivers contained in the HP Intel PRO/1000 GT drivers download
file sp33671.exe (64 MB), 9.4.21.0 A (4 Sep 2006). Choose to extract to a non-temporary folder, it will produce C:\swsetup\SP33671\PRO100\Win32\ by default and that is where we found the driver. Hope it helps!

nothing to do with the ram ... this motherboard sometimes locks, ( dont ask me why) but if you take out the power cord for 5-10 minutes and then press and hold the front power button on the machine (about 10 seconds) it will reset the board. Plug in the power cord and the basic items, sound, video etc ( some usb devices tend to stop it booting to) boot into windows. Then add the rest of your usb devices ..
