Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

Playstation 2 won't come on

I have a playstation 2 that won't come on after a power surge. The TV plugged into the same outlet is fine. This has been a great device up until that time. Are there small steps (power cord, switch, fuses, etc. to try first)? Would like to try and fix it myself.

i also have the same problem but don't know about the power surge. We went to a Hannah Montana concert and it worked fine before we left. My son played it at an aunts house during that time, and when we returned home,no power after connecting the power cord. The set up is a little wierd. I have a dc outlet on the back, to which an adapter is connected and then the ps2 cord like my dad and brother have. I was going to try my dad's cord to see if that was the problem, but the shapes of connectors weren't compatible. Should I try buying another cord anyway?

PS I got a new game for xmas and now can't play it until I get this fixed!! :(

Ok, I understand that it was plugged in during a power surge. Was it on? Becuase what I would do I keep it unplugged to prevent the fuse from melting! I would be happy to arrange a live chat thing. If i don't get it fixed it is free!!!!! Please e-mail me at austinpilz@atcsincorporated.com to set one up!

Try disconnecting all of your HDMI cables and plugging the power cord of the TV into another wall outlet. If this resolves the issue, you may have had a small power surge from either your wall outlet or one of your source devices. It is recommended to connect your TV to a surge protector if you haven't done so already.

My playstation 3 turns itself off everytime i try 2 turn it on, how do i fix this?

That sounds like a bad power supply. Contact Sony to see about getting an RMA/ See if they have steps you can try other than the basic "Try another outlet, don't have it in a surge protector, etc"

How do you set up a ps3?

Hello,

I would suggest you follow these procedures, hook up your PlayStation 3 to a television. You must decide whether your TV supports high definitions (HD) resolution or not. For HD resolution, you must use a HDMI cable or a component video cable. These cables also support standard definition (SD) resolution. If you only have an SD television, you can use an S-video cable or an AV cable. These two can't support HD resolution.

Connect the PlayStation 3 to any audio equipment such as a A/V receiver or home entertainment system. Connect using a digital audio cable or, alternatively, run an HDMI cable to your A/V receiver then another HDMI cable to the television set.

Plug in the Ethernet cable, then connect the other end to a 10Base T jack from your home network. This connects you to the Internet and the world of online gaming.

Attach the AC power cord to the PlayStation 3, and then plug it into a surge protected wall outlet. Don't plug in the power cord until all other connections have been made as a chance of shock exists.

Perform the initial set up of the system. Turn on the power of the TV and game console, and follow the on-screen prompts. The pre-installed software guides you through the set up process.
Take care.

you need to check the voltage of the power plug.... if you have it plugged into a power strip or surge protector try a different outlet or ac plug

PS3 Power Surge Help!

hi there try using the ps3 as audio-cd play(blind, without screen)
with any other tv to make sure soun still is coming...
if there was a flash or circuit destroyíng the yellow(video)plug,
either the cable has been destroyed or the short backfired even into the video module of the psx3.
try exchanging the cable, if that doesn't do any good, the video module got smoked...

let a technician repair/replace it or you think about becoming the happy owner of another brand new psx3

good luck!

Playstation not receiving power

This could be a problem with your AC power cord, try these fixes. If they do not work you ca contact sony at:

www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3
or
www.uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3

  • The console might not be turned on. Turn on the console using the main power switch on the back of the console.
  • Make sure the AC power cord is securely connected.
  • Visually inspect the AC power cord for damage. Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
  • Confirm the wall power outlet is active (receiving power). Try a different power outlet.
  • If possible, test the power cord by connecting it to a different PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If possible, try another AC power cord on your PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If you experienced a power surge, shortage, or a lightning storm in your geographical area recently, this may have affected the PLAYSTATION 3 power supply and the PLAYSTATION 3 may need service.
  • Make sure the vents are not obstructed in anyway.
  • Make sure there is adequate ventilation for the PLAYSTATION 3. There should be at least four (4) inches of clearance between the air vents on the system and any walls, televisions, entertainment centers, etc. Otherwise the unit may not function properly due to what are actually environmental issues.

Surge protector shuts off while playing PS3

swap to another surge protector. if it still does it, it is a power surge at the outlet, if it does not, the Surge Proctector has worn out. have someone with the appropriate knowlege have a look at the outlet as well. older outlets especially tend to wear to the point where the plug literally falls out of the wall.

Sony PS3 will not power up -

    1. First check the power cable by removing it and then plugging it in again. You may find it is not pushed in far enough.
If that is good then follow these steps
    • The console might not be turned on. Turn on the console using the main power switch on the back of the console.
    • Make sure the AC power cord is securely connected.
    • Visually inspect the AC power cord for damage. Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
    • Confirm the wall power outlet is active (receiving power). Try a different power outlet.
    • If possible, test the power cord by connecting it to a different PLAYSTATION 3.

    I hope this helped
