    How to repair cartridge-type faucets

  • Cartridge faucets have only one moving part. The stem slides up and down to open and close the faucet and rotates to regulate the flow of hot and cold water. Any leaking requires replacement of the cartridge.

  • First, turn off the water. To remove the cartridge, you'll need to remove the handle. This project can be like working a puzzle. If you have the manufacturer's instruction sheet for the faucet, you're ahead of the game. Without it, look for a retainer clip at the rear of the faucet just below the handle. Or, you may have to remove a set screw or snap-in "hot-cold" button and a handle pin or screw. On some faucets the swing spout must come off first. The retainer clip may be hiding beneath the handle inside a lift-out tube. Some cartridge faucets use two retainer clips–one by the handle and another by the cartridge. Retainer clips can be pried out with a screwdriver.

  • Once the retainer clip is removed, the cartridge simply pulls out. Use pliers, as shown. Install the new cartridge by pushing it into place with the flat arrow, or other mark upward. If you use a lubricant on the cartridge, make sure it's silicone grease.

Ll800-BN faucet drips after water is turned off need to know how to make adjustment

More than likely, the cartridge will need to be replaced. I am not familiar with this particular faucet. However, most faucets are very similar in the breakdown procedures.
Be sure, first, to make sure water is turned off at the shut-off valves under the sink. Next, you should find a set screw on the handle; this is usually removed with an allen wrench. The screw is typically located on the handle of the faucet; often times, the set screw is covered by a small plug that is either red and blue, or will match the finish of the faucet.
Once you remove the handle, you may find another screw-typically it is a #2 Phillips screw, or a nut that loosens to gain access to the cartridge. Once you remove that assembly, the cartridge will need to be removed. Also, there may be a slide clip holding the cartridge; if it has that clip, you will find it just under the stem of the cartridge and it is usually found closest to the wall side of the faucet. Manufactures make cartridge removal tools, as sometimes the cartridge can be difficult to pull out. However, more often than not, I use a pair of channel locks. If you choose that method, just be sure you do not scratch the finish on your faucet. Keep in mind, it may take some force to remove the cartridge.
If you order a new cartridge for your faucet beforehand, the new cartridge will come with replacement instructions.
This is a very simple procedure for a handy homeowner to tackle. If you call the services of a plumber, I expect your cost to be anywhere from $75-$125. Again, just be certain that water is turned off first.

This is American standard clear tap kitchen faucet. How to stop leak? I have already changed cartridge. Still leaking.

That's one heck of a leak! Generally, replacing the cartridge should solve problems like this - but you said you've already done this so it suggests to me that there is an issue with the faucet body that the cartridge sits in - or that the cartridge was not properly installed.

If your water is hard and untreated, deposits can form and may also eat away at the metal. I suggest removing the cartridge and even the faucet (if needed) to carefully inspect and thoroughly clean the area that holds the cartridge. Soak the faucet in white vinegar as long as needed to dissolve minerals / hard water deposits. Scrub with an old tooth brush as needed.

Check the directions for installation of your cartridge once more. If unable to locate - chek online. Sometimes these are larger than those included with the cartridge. Attempt to reinstall. Contact the faucet manufacturer's customer help line if unsure about installation or if the leak persists after reinstallation.

    Dripping facet

If a faucet is leaking the necessary repair will be either:
    1. For a ceramic or washerless faucet, replace the cartridge.
    2. For a typical old fashioned faucet, open the faucet, replace the washer (and packing if it has any) and verify that the faucet seat has not eroded.
The newer washerless faucets cannot be repaired except by replacing the cartridge. Cartridges for most common faucets are available at most home improvement stores or plumbing supply houses.
It sounds a lot more difficult than it really is, just shut off the water (usually a shut off valve under the sink). After the water is off, remove the handle and any chrome protective covering. Depending on the faucet type, it may be a little difficult to remove the cartridge since they are often covered with mineral build-up or corroded into place.
Once you remove the old cartridge the new one usually goes into place easily.
    NOTE!!!
For single handle faucets, make sure you put it in the right way, some of them will put the hot to the wrong side if you put them together backward.

No water when valve is turned all the way to hot side

Remove the faucet handle and trim. Close of the check valve stops on each side of the valve body with a flat screwdriver. Remove the balancing spool and Moen cartridge. Look for and mineral buildup in side the faucet and on the spool or cartridge. If there is buildup on the spool and cartridge, place them in a large bowel with a cup of vinegar and a teaspoon of baking soda. The solution will remove the buildup in a few minutes. Replace the Moen faucet parts and test the faucet. If there is buildup inside the faucet body, use a wire copper fitting brush to the remove the minerals from inside the spool and cartridge tubes of the faucet body. Turn the stop valves on just a little to wash out the debris before reinstalling the spool and moen faucet cartridge. If the is is still no pressure on the one side or the other, turn off all the water to the house and remove the check valve stops, clean them as well and the inside of the faucet. If all else fails, replace the stops, spool and cartridge. Beyond that, the water supply lines may need to be flushes with the same solution.bbfb399.jpg
