What's the expression? It's a bit difficult to simply an invisible expression.
The degree of a polynomial is the highest power (largest exponent).

It is not possible to give a general answer to such a question. If you have a fraction, simplifying it entails dividing by factors that are common to the denominator and the numerator. If you have an algebraic expression such as a polynomial you simplify it by combining like terms until you have only one term of each type. A trigonometric expression can be compacted, etc.

I have a 2002 Chevy Express 1500 replace compressor Orphus tube accumulator new fan clutch hair gets 40 degrees when driving but when sitting at idle goes to 70 degrees I even installed electric fans still does the same thing and cleaned out all degree that is on the front of the evaporator coil what could be the problem

I have a SHARP EL-501W calculator and i am getting the wrong answers with the tan -1 function


Hi,
The source of errors is most certainly due to the wrong schoice of angle unit (degree or radian). If the default angle unit set in your calculator is the degree, any value fed to the trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan) is considered to be expressed in degrees. Consequently, if you calculate the arctangent ( tan^-1) of a value, the angle returend by that inverse trigonometric function is expressed implicitly in degrees.

Similarly if radian is the default angle unit in your calculator, any angle returned by an inverse trigonometric function (arcos, arcsin, arctan) is in radian.

Set the default angle unit as the one required by your problem at hand. This way, the angles returned will be in the right unit and you will not have a problem of interpretation.

How to factor with this model

Sorry, but you cannot use this calculator to factor a general polynomial.
1. It does not know symbolic algebra.
2. It can only manipulate numbers.

However if you have polynomials of degree 2 or 3, with numerical coefficients (no letters) you can set [MODE] to Equation and use the equation solver to find the real roots of 2nd degree or 3rd degree polynomials. Assuming that your polynomials have real roots (X1, X2) for the polynomial of degree 2, or (X1, X2, X3) for the polynomial of degree 3, then it is possible to write

P2(X) =a*(X-X1)(X-X2)
P3(X)= a(X-X1)(X-X2)(X-X3)


where a is the coefficient of the highest degree monomial aX^2 +...
or aX^3 +....

This is an approximate factorization, except if your calculator configured in MathIO, has been able to find exact roots (fractions and radicals)

While the [MODE][5:Equation] only handles quadratic and cubic equations, the [SHIFT][SOLVE=] solver finds the roots of arbitarry expressions (not limited to polynomials). In principle you can use it to find the roots of an expression. If it is a polynomial of dgree higher that 3 you can factor it (approximately).

But I have a hunch that this is not what you wanted to hear.

Firstly, though the answer is expressed as an angle "south" of west, the canoe will be traveling southeast, so the degree should be read south of east, not south of west. The ultimate velocity of the canoe will me 1.065 m/s.  The direction is 22 degrees south of east, or 158 degrees from West, but not 158 degrees south of west, since beyond 90 degrees south of west you have south. I used trig and I passed calculus so I'm pretty sure i'm right.
