Question about GE D52GW12 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

Fire Hazard.... I own a 52" GE projection screen tv. It started turning its self off and then all of a sudden when it would come back on it would make this crackeling sound and sparks were shooting out the back. We took the back cover off and plugged it back in to see what was going on and it seem to be located in one little spot. I am unsure if it is even worth sending to the repair shop since I have heard from others that this tv is considered a "disposable tv". Should I even attempt to get this fixed or just buy a new tv?

Please report these problems to the consumer product safety commision. I believe this common problem with large sparks and flames warrants a recall.

hi

i agree with you about the fire hazard and i had many feedbacks about this tv, mostly conscious about fire hazard too.

i would suggest that in light of owning a high-def tv, it would be significantly appropriate to place this in a room with airconditioning as to diminish the heat this hdtv produces.

about the issue of the hdtv turning off, if you suspect the transformer and other parts to be the reason for the tv to malfunction, why not bring it to a certified service center which handles GE hdtv. i would say that it may be a pain but as to think of the outcome, it may be worth it.

hope this helps.

HELP! Fire Hazzard!

It sounds like your focus/screen block, the flyback transformer, or maybe a CRT anode lead is leaking high voltage. This could be a serious problem, or could be a simple one. You should not attempt this repair unless you know all of the high voltage safety issues involved with this TV set. Good Luck
