Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor Yth2148 Owners Manual

1 Answer

Engine misfire I have a Husqvarna YTH2148 that has a very cyclic misfire (about every 3 or 4 seconds). during the misfire it blows black smoke. As a result it fouls plugs very quickly. I change the oil, oil filter, gas filter, and air filter regularly. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Mowers aren't my forte but it sounds likt the valve clearances need checking. Here is a link to a description of how to correct the valve gaps.

SOURCE: 353 husqvarna chainsaw, floods during start process

Husqvarna says the initial carburetor needle valve settings are from lightly seated 1 turn CCW for both H & L.

Your Operator's Manual can be downloaded here:

Once flooded Huskys are very hard to start. This works well on my 359.
Start Procedure
Cold:

  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually the next pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) choke, - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open - fast idle maintained) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Hope this helps
Lou

SOURCE: I have a husqvarna 55. I put in a new carb, coil,

If you are still having problems I would check or replace white grommet inserted into cylinder and connected to manifold, they have issues with breaking or blowing out. This model also has problems with the black intake boot not sealing around cylinder and manifold,an easy check by spraying a LITTLE carb cleaner around problem area.

black smoke is too much fuel
check for leaking injector and injector seals
check for excessive fuel pressure
run the fault codes as you will have some from the engine light on

Why does My Husqvarna YTH2148 lose power when I switch on the blade?

Most likely you have either a partially plugged main jet as engine normally run off the idle mixture when not loaded or you have a blown head gasket.

I would say you need to take your cat off and check to see if the monolith is blocked/broken up. The big puff and black smoke tell me you are getting a pressure build up, a blocked/broken up cat is the most likely cause of that.

Misfire and blowing black smoke

Hi Rick,

There is a number of problems,
1. You need to give the car a proper service. Change plugs, filters, brakes, all the oils.
2. clean the valve body with the flow sensors
The black smoke is most properly from the engine oil that is combusting. This will stop as soon as you have change the air filter.
3. make sure that the spark plug wires are in a good condition as well.

Husqvarna with Kawasaki 21hp engine misfiring when revved

We had big problems with the Kawasaki engine doing this, the early engine has an external vented carb, you can try extening the pipe from the carb and get it away from the draught from the flywheel, the later engine has an internally vented carb which cured this issue, the carb is retro fittable but expensive, it was offered as a re build kit when fitted to Husqvarna tractors, try taking it up with Kawasaki.

Husqvarna yth1848xpt with a kawaskie 20 hp puffs black smoke

I had the same problem with my YTH1848XPT . Believe it or not it is simply a dirty air filter....you must remove the filter and blow it out with an air compressor...or better yet replace it. you can not clean it well enough without the force of the air compressor. Mine works great now.
