From Wikipedia: A magnetic stirrer or magnetic mixer is a laboratory device that employs a rotating magnetic field to cause a stir bar (also called "flea") immersed in a liquid to spin very quickly, thus stirring it. The rotating field may be created either by a rotating magnet or a set of stationary electromagnets, placed beneath the vessel with the liquid. Since glass does not affect a magnetic field appreciably (it is transparent to magnetism), and most chemical reactions take place in glass vessels (i.e. see beaker (glassware) or laboratory flasks), magnetic stir bars work well in glass vessels. On the other hand, the limited size of the bar means that magnetic stirrers can only be used for relatively small (under 4 liters) experiments. They also have difficulty dealing with viscous liquids or thick suspensions. For larger volumes or more viscous liquids, some sort of mechanical stirring is typically needed.

Corning Pc-320 hotplate/stirrer. Where can I get a manual?

Why do you need a manual there is nothing to do. To make the stirring function work, you need a magnetic stir bar (just a Teflon coated magnet. There is a motor-powered spinning magnet under the ceramic plate.

The heater is not thermostatically controlled. It just heats more as you turn the dial more.

On my amana rfs8b the stirrer or bracket cought on fire , whould the stirrer being stuck cause this?

Yes! it is more than likely that what happened [ motor overheated because it was seized] my main concern is the magnetron, if it ran for all that time without food, it has more than likely sustained damage.

What is a stirrer cover, the plastic part over the fan inside the top of my Sanyo microwave is burning.

That burning part is referred to as the stirrer cove, unless you have one similar on the bottom. It's like plastic pie plate. The fan stirs the microwaves and heat in simple terms.

Unless food is burning off it , I would be replacing the unit or have a qualified, trained microwave tech service it. You need a microwave leak detector to work on them safely. Given the cost most are disposable these days. Be Safe on this one

How to get to stirrer on amana mvh220e microwave oven?

You don't have to do that kind of disassembly to get to the stirrer on this model.

The stirrer is located under the floor plate, which is probably ceramic and certainly fragile.

It's held in place with a rubber gasket, which you should be careful not to tear.

You can use a butter knife or putty knife to gently lift up the front of the floor plate, then it will slide forward & out.

Then you'll see the stirrer.

If the gasket is torn, it should be replaced or sealed with caulk after a thorough degreasing and cleaning.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

GE Spacesaver 1800 XL - rattling sound

Hi jnflanders,
You've probably solved this by now, but I'll answer just in case. That part is called the stirrer motor. You can replace it yourself, as long as you have an offset phillip's head screwdriver handy.
Before you order the replacement part, figure out if your stirrer is driven by a d-shaped or a square shaft. You can tell by taking off the round plate on the inside top wall of the microwave. GE makes stirrer motors for both d-shaped and square shafts, so you'll have to get the right one. Here's the d-shaped motor that fixed this problem with my microwave: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=2024961.
Good luck!

Hot Spots in my Spacemaker Microwave Oven JVM14OH001

Okay, I see now.

That would be the "stirrer blade assembly" part number WB2X9935.

It comes as an assembly, with the stirrer blade and what looks like a coupler.

GE sells it for $98, but you can get by searching for part # WB2X9935 here for only $55.61.

Microwave issue

It could be a bad motor. You really need to connect it to power to fully test it. It may also be that the stirrer is binding.
