Only you, hopefully, should have the Security Key(password) to your Wireless Network. If you have forgotten the Security Key, reset the wireless device and reconfigure the wireless SSID and Security Key. You didn't post the Make, Model of device, so I can't be any more specific.

SOURCE: I can't geto into router's

I don't know what the URL you gave is for. You access your router from your web browser (Firefox, IE, etc.) with address http://192.168.0.1 or //192.168.1.1 (depending on the model) from a computer connected to one of the router's wired ports. Unless you have changed them, the default username is admin and the password is password for most Netgear routers. A few models use a capital P in password, and some use 1234 as the password. But "admin" and "password" are most common.

Even if you can access the router, I'm not sure you'll be able to read your wireless security key. I don't think the Netgear routers display the key in plain text, but I may be wrong. It's been a while since I've set one up and I don't have one handy to check. If it does show plain text you're home free. Otherwise, the thing to do is reset the router by pressing the recessed RESET button on the rear panel, holding it for about 10 seconds and releasing it. The router will restart and all its settings will be back to factory defaults. This includes the router username and password, so if you can't access the router setup pages because you don't know them, this will solve that problem.

Once you've reset the router you can set up your wireless network again, and enter a new security key. This time write it down somewhere so you don't go through this again. I put a text file with all their information in it on machines I set up for people, then give it a name and extension (netstat.sys, for example) that doesn't make it obvious what the file is, but the customer knows where to look if they need it.

I have just bought anew laptop cant get onto internet it wants me to type in security key i dont know what this is can you help me please?

  • If your are trying to connect via wireless from your laptop to the Netgear router, most likely it's requiring you to input the wireless security key(usually it's WEP or WPA encryption).

  • Access the router's setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser(IE or Chrome). On the login use the default username and password(admin, password).

11_25_2011_1_21_04_pm.png
  • After logging in. Look at the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the Wireless Key. If the wireless security is set to WEP, use the available Key code but If it's WPA, what you need is the passphrase.

11_25_2011_1_26_22_pm.jpg
Type the Key or Passphrase on your wireless laptop and it should connect to the router.

My Wii will not connect to my router. I have tried all the routerlogin.net and .com solution attempts. Also the 192.168.1.1 stuff. No luck. Netgear tells me I have to use their support tech at $69.995....

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect you Wii to the internet wirelessly first we need to know the settings of your router. Listed below are the steps on how to access your router. You need a working computer connected to the router to access it follwed by the steps on how to connect our Wii.

How to access the Router:

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net. The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key (Wep/Wpa Key) or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Network Key is case sensitive.

Now that we have the information needed lets connect your Wii to the internet.

1. Select Wii Settings
2. Then Internet Connection Settings
3. Search for an AP or SSID
4. Input Security Key or Network Key
5. Test the Connection.
Other Suggestion

Did this connection used to work but has suddenly stopped? "Power cycle" your router by unplugging it from the power outlet. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then plug in the router. Try to connect the Wii and test for proper response.

The Wii may have detected and set itself to the wrong security type during the initial connection set up. Try creating a new connection file and going through the connection process again but be sure that when the Wii asks for a security code, the type shown on screen (WEP or WPA) is what your router is set to. If it is different

Change your router's channel setting to 1 or 11. By default, most routers broadcast on channel 6, which overlaps with other channels and may be weaker

Need a securty code

Regarding your concern, please note that in order to get the network key/password on the NETGEAR router (MODEL_NUMBER), we need to login to the router's web interface using any computer which is physically connected to the router.

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router using an Ethernet cable in order to find the network/security key:

1. Open the browser (like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1', 'http://www.routerlogin.net' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. When prompted for Username and Password please enter Username as 'admin' and Password as 'password' (please note that both Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings' under Setup from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the pass phrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the NETGEAR router's wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the pass phrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.
