Viewsonic VX900 turns on for second then shuts off

The 19" LCD monitor turns on for a second and then goes off, but the green light stays on, by the power button, and can turn off and turn on again and it stays on for second and shuts off. Ive done some research saying it maybe power supply or Backlight was wondering if you knew how to diagnose the power supply board to be faulty or any other fixes that may help Thanks

My 2 yr old lcd vx900 monitor suddenly went blank except when I cycle power. The image then appears just fine for one second and then goes blank again and stays there. i have done some research and i think i can be the inverter (power). please let me know if im right.

My Viewsonic VX900 has been working great for the past few years but now is doing the exact same thing to me as well. It turns on/powers on, shows the image for s slit second, and then goes blank, but still being powered on.

Before this happened I did switch the monitor from my PC to laptop so I think it may have something to do with the resolution change that messed it up.

I haven't gotten to call Viewsonic yet, but hope there is some way to reset it back to normal for us having this problem!

My issue is exactly the same. I have another monitor that works fine and when I switch the cables, the other continues to work so it is not the graphics card. Any thoughts. I feel like I have lost an eye.

I had to replace a fuse(F1) on the inverterboard of my VX900 to get it back to life as fuzzytek sugested.

It was replaced by a normal "flat" fuse (for cars). Had no clue about the value, so I tried with 0,5A first. It blew right away. Next value I had was 2A, and it worked! (It might be too small, and it might be too big, but I think it is better to usa a "large" fuse rather than no fuse at all. :)

As far as the vx900 2 second screen there are 2 fuses on the inverter board that need to be checked. as far as the vx 910 that gundam84andy posted there are capacitors that need to be replaced.

I just repaired my Viewsonic 2235 which was turning on for 30 secs or so then turning off although the power light stayed on. Turns out there were three capacitors that needed replacing - all were 200uf25v - very easy to replace (replaced with 220uf65v) and the monitor is now working fine. Thanks to all for the tips found here!

Check the 100uf capacitor near the black plug leading to the audio board. It won't look bad but replace it anyway. Fixed 10/12 bad ones we had.

I've been reading posts from all over the internet, and have actually taken a Viewsonic VG700B apart, and looked at its internals. Definitely has bad capacitors, they're bulging on top. This unit I picked up today from a computer recycling center in KCMO. I turned it on, it showed a beautiful picture, then went blank. Definitely needs capacitors changed out. I also have a KDS LCD flat panel that has issues, funky screen in boot up, and windows. So, possibly an expensive fix. However, I have a Generic 15" flat panel that only needed a power supply change to repair it. I used a Y connector like you'd use in a computer to give more connections to the power supply. It can now run either by the internal PSU in my computer, or on a power supply for an IDE to USB hard drive. It's been running on this for 6 months now.
So, check your board inside your monitor, if it's swollen, it's bad, and needs to be replaced. Easiest way to test power supply would be to borrow a power supply from someone with a known good power supply for a comparable monitor. Or you could build one using a mollux connector, a couple of wire splices, and a working Y connector. Viewsonic VX900 turns on for second then shuts off - moz-screenshot-1.jpg moz-screenshot.jpg

Guys, it is not the power supply. I checked the power supply, it is OK. It is the inverter. I checked the inverter on the ebay and it is costing 79.99 before shipping. Now I am trying to get the generic which is used in case lighting. It cost about $10.00 including shippment but I have to modify it. I don't know yet how I am going to make use of dimmer and on off feature. As soon as I am done I will post it.

This is the solution for my Viewsonic VA-912B, i resoldered the pink wire to the right of the picture shown. I had the same exact symptoms everyone else seems to have. Its in the high voltage section of the inverter. I'm guessing it became a cold solder joint over time.Viewsonic VX900 turns on for second then shuts off - effc653.jpg

How could this be the power supply? I currently have a problem with the monitor, If you weren't getting the correct wattage to begin with, wouldn't it not turn on in the first place? I'm a networking guy and OS, not hardware. The light does indeed stay on. It stays on for a second at most, going black. Somewhere else said a dead pixel, but I would think you'd see it for the second it turns on. ( Giving enough time you turn it on enough to see the screen little by little). Could someone with SOME credential lead us int he right direction? If it helps, drivers don't seem to diagnose.

Try to replace the electrolytic capacitors before the inverters.

I have the same problem but my model is VX910 or 924, don't remember which one it is. The weird thing is that when I try to even press the power button it didn't do anything. However; I did try to unplug the power cord and plugged it back in and it'll turn on by itself. So It could be the power supply.

Note: This problem doesn't occur all the time, like during the last weekend the monitor was running just fine all day but then yesterday it just died on me again. I really don't want to spend money to get another one, so I'll see what I can do to repair this problem.

View sonic vx900 monitor - screen display comes on for a second and then goes dark; green light on monitor - all cables and power seem to be fine

It may have backlights inverter board problem, check the two surface mounted fuses, also can be bad lamps. Also verify that the AC adapter is putting out correct voltage with load.

The inverter circuits or the power supply for the inverter circuits have failed due to bad caps, cold solder joints, shorted transistors.

josealvajr, Check YOUTUBE again!! Use search terms: "lcd monitor repair" and "lcd monitor disassembly" and you will find some video clips that may not be for your unit, but will help you. More likely to be bad caps (bulging top/seal) in the power supply, which when they failed, they may have taken out the inverter fuse on the transistors in the inverter circuits also. See example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

The fault maybe an inverter board fault or CCFL lamp fault.
