Screen Issues I have a 50" Philips Plasma (50PF9630A/37). The screen suddenly went weird. There is a rainbow of colors and black spots (looks like a puddles of water). You can barely see a pitcure. Unplugging for an extended period doesn't help and it is in place for all inputs including the menu.

I was searching the web and came across this youtube post that shows my exact problem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2bX8FcER...) .

One response says it is the Y-board. Another says the power supply.

    Any thoughts?

I was watching my team in the first half of their fisrt game of the NCAA and it suddenly went black and it wouldn't turn on after that. It was working perfectly fine before it happened. Please h

You have indicated this is a 50PF9630A Philips which is a Plasma set.

If you have not done so unplug and then replug the set--if still same issue the set has a problem.

Someone would have to open and examine for power supply problem and then begin sub of boards (buy and replace) to see which board or boards are bad.

If you open the cover at the back of your tv you will see the ac input then you can see the fuse their, if made of glass you will see the filament, if cut and no burn mark just try to replace it,but if the whole glass is burned and cant see the filament of the fuse your regulator is shorted replace it.

Solid black line

Scuse me
you can't do anything for this because if you have a defective anode or cathode on your cluster screen you will have what we call a dead-line (anode = Oriental , cathode = vertical)

but if your warrantied is not finish go for it it's your last chance

bye and sorry

PHILIPS 50PF9630A/37

Quick test of the plasma screen itself:

1) Turn on the TV
2) Try to bring up an on screen setup menu using the remote or buttons on the tv.
3) Does the menu appear? If so, the screen itself is ok.

If it doesn't come up you make have an issue with the screen itself. I am not sure it would be possible to set contrast and brightness settings such that the picture would completely disappear, but I suspect you should be seeing something on the screen just from having turned it on.

We also need to know more about what you have connected to the television. HD televisions typically have several inputs on them including HDMI, digital cable, VGA and component. Let's say for example you have PS3 connected via HDMI. You can tell the PS3 to send audio across the HDMI cable as well as video. You also have the option of running separate connections for your audio signal. It is the existence of these options that make it necessary to understand where and how you have things connected, very specifically.
