Question about Kenmore 24 in. 15222 / 15229 Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

Dishwasher won't drain

I have a kenmore 363.15229 model that won't drain. It makes a clunk noise as if it is engaging the pump and it appears the solenoid pin is dropping but yet the water does not drain out. Is it the pump assembly and if so how diffifult is it to replace and/or does the part cost as much as a new dishwasher?

I have a Kenmore 363.1404198 and it too is not draining well and is a leaking a little bit on the kitchen floor. I am not sure if the pump went out or if the discharge tube is just clogged wih old food. Do they all have a pump that extracts the water or do they ever work on a siphon principle? Thanks

not sure if the pump is broken, or if it could be something else. It's not the tube, and it is not the drain.

SOURCE: Kenmore Dishwasher 665.1671590 Leaking water at fill funnel.

Step1
Inspect the door gasket. As it ages, the gasket can crack or become hard, preventing it from sealing completely.
Step
2
If the gasket appears solid, adjust the door latch so the door seals tightly. Loosen the screw that holds the door latch to the cabinet. Push the latch in slightly and retighten the screw. Test the door and readjust the latch if necessary.
Step
3
Replace the gasket if water continues to leak after you've tightened the latch. Most gaskets are held by compression in a groove on the door or on the dishwasher cabinet.
Step
4
Pull the old gasket out of its groove, using adjustable pliers (see illustration). Take the gasket to an appliance store to get a replacement.
Step
5
Soak the new gasket in warm water to soften it, then press it into the groove. Start at the top, then work your way down the sides and across the bottom.

Water is not draining after wash. What might be the cause?

  1. Check for hose kinks or food plugging drain hose. Start at the drain port exit ( there are others, this is just an example )
  2. Check the check valve and drain hose for debris.
  3. Check pump motor for reversing during the pump out make sure the dishwasher is pausing between the wash and drain cycles letting the pump/motor reverse for the drain cycle.
  4. Check timer for not letting the dishwasher pause. ( not all dishwashers )
  5. Check pump motor assembly for a drain solenoid, during the pump out make sure the solenoid makes that distinctive "clunk" noise
  6. If you have recently installed a new garbage disposal, check knock-out plug at connection.
  7. Check pump impeller for damage.
  8. Check that the water inlet valve isn't seeping fresh water into the dishwasher when off.
