The 88 Monte came stock with am/fm or am/fm cassette so my guess is your head unit is after market, implying that there may be two in-line fuses on the units power leads

1) 12+ volt Un-switched constant feed (memory)
2) 12+ volt Switched feed (operation)

If you can not locate these fuses from under the dash, then you may need to remove the head unit to inspect the wires that connect to the rear for the in-line fuses.

When you reinstall the unit, be sure to make those in-line fuses accessible from under the dash.

Good luck

The CD player in my factory stereo has a CD stuck inside of it. We know that the radio is programmed for this VIN # only. Can I unplug the stereo and fix the CD player and then plug it back in without...

Try disconnecting the battery for a few seconds and try to eject the cd, if this don't work you can take the cd player to the dealer ship and they can send it to be repaired

How hard would it be to put a different cd player in my 2003 Monte Carlo SS ??

It is very simple actually. What you will need is a face plate, an aftermarket wire harness and the skills to connect this wire harness to the new CD player harness, they are usually color coded so very simple. TO remove you stock CD player you will need to pry off the plastic surround then there are 4, 7mm bolts that will need to be taken out and the stock CD player will pull out. Unclip the wire harness and antenna

Radio problem check cd keeps showing even when no cd is inside

Sorry bud, replace the cd player.... it's probably worn out. Check out the JVC, Sony, Pioneer and Alpine units for quality at affordable prices. HarmanKardon is better - except on your wallet :P

Audio display says check cd

This may be a bit late to help, but I just had the same problem yesterday. Same car (2000 Monte Carlo SS), but mine is just the CD/radio stereo (no cassette). I was able to solve it by pulling the fuse for the radio (it's in the right-side panel) and letting it sit for a minute. After putting it back in, the CD player made the disc ejecting sound one time (no "check CD" message) and stayed off. And now it seems to be working fine. We'll see how long it lasts, though.

2002 chevy monte carlo stero problems

The stereos antitheft isnt armed is it. This makes it so the stereo wont work until it is disarmed by typing in a 4 number code for your car. Its only supposed to arm if the power is cut though such as the fuse was pulled or the battery was disconnected from the car.
