Compaq Presarion 2800 - Fan Problem?

By Green1 - usenet poster

Hi Folks,

last week I received my awesome Presarion 2816EA Notebook. There is
one thing I don??t like and I think that might me a bug.

After switching on the notebook the fan jumps in after 15 - 30 minutes
and doesn??t stop anymore. It only stops if I switch the battery modes!
For example: The machine is running on "save energy" and the fan
doesn't stop - switching to "save battery" stops the fan (and it stays
quite for 15 - 30 Minutes). (I hope you understand what I mean -
because I only use the German Windows XP Home).

This happens running pn Battery and on AC.

I use the newest BIOS Version F.0D.

Any hints?

Greetings from Germany
Erik

Just a wild guess here.  When I find a laptop acting like that at work,
the first thing I do is run a virus scan on it.  I've found that
behavior to often be the result of one of the viruses trying to send
email or connect to network shares running.  Seems to keep the box
rather busy.

When the laptop running under AC, it's in full power (max CPU speed);
however, the CPU will step down to run at lower speed under battery mode
which in turns generate less heat. P4 generate quite a lot of heat, BTW, do
you have any background tasks running constantly?
