Question about Water Heaters

AO Smith GPS 75 200 not working

I have an AO Smith GPS 75 200. Many times a day I find that I have no hot water. The error code I receive is: fist light on, second off, last four are on. I can't find this code in the documentation. If I turn off the power, then turn it back on, the boiler starts heating up again, and I get hot water. However, at some point, for some unknown reason, it goes off again. Any advice is appreciated.

Copy following link for troubleshoot service manuals by type of gas control valve, including instructions for replacing gas control valve:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent
http://www.hotwater.com/lit/training/320988-000.pdf
Perform the required maintenance, and catch unit up to date, and replace gas control,,, might be best to call plumber.
The intellivent gas control valve is removed completely from tank, so tank must be drained.

SOURCE: vokera linea combiboiler error code CO

It's got nothing to do with carbon monoxide. CO means the boiler is in combustion test mode, that's all (and in this case -- long since fixed, I imagine, but other people will no doubt find this page in the future -- failing). Vokera could probably have made this clearer, but hey.

Rust in water, ao smith promax

It may be what is called iron bacteria it will sometime grow in a water heater. It is present in some water and will actually thrive in water temps up to 120 degrees.if this is the case one solution is to increase the water tempurature of the heater to 130 -140 degrees this will kill the bacteria that is causing the rust problem. You Must install a tempering or mixing valve which will add cold water to temper or cool the water back to 120.
hope this helps.

No hot water - the light shows red. It has had problem in the past months but cutting the power off and back on seemed to reboot the computer. This time the light stays red.

Before calling service technician:
Click following link, the click product, then scroll to page bottom to tab that offers technical literature, and download service manual and operation manual.

Read the required installation and maintenance protocol to see if air filter has been cleaned regularly, or the condenser coil might be dirty.
Required maintenance can be done by service tech recommended by AO Smith.
Contact AO Smith to find trained person, and next time, do not install expensive water heater since all savings disappear with service issues.

Water was coming from the top of my water heater and I want to know if it need to be replaced or can it be repaired?

Hello Marcia

Unit is probably rusted out:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Leaking-water-heater.html

Reliance is AO Smith. I recommend the AO Smith line-up of water heater brands as best because air intake screen is located on bottom of unit and can be cleaned by homeowner without removing combustion parts, and because AO Smith posts service manuals.

Water not as hot as it was.

Tankless require yearly service to keep burner and combustion parts clean and check electrical connections, gas solenoid, gas pressure, venting, etc.
Read product manual for advisories and recommended maintenance.
Yes, aren't you glad you saved the manual.
Always check that local area has affordable and qualified service technician for your brand before buying tankless.
Before calling service technician, copy following link for general troubleshoot resources, including some manuals, and links to Bosch.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/No-Error-Code.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html

Try turning temperature down.
The fact there is no error code, and the gas is not firing correctly, means you have a small unit with no error codes and PC board has failed ... or it means you have a unit with error codes and possibly bad PC board.
If problem is the PC board, then Bosch will send you new board, and expect same level of repair success as though your computer's motherboard was replaced.

You can buy ordinary box-store tank-type heater and install yourself same day for about $325.
Then maintain and fix it yourself. I recommend AO Smith/American/State/Reliance/Kenmore/Whirlpool since these are easy to maintain with clear directions in manual, plus AO Smith posts service manuals for the whole line of products, and any local plumber can fix them with ez-to-locate generic parts.

I have an A. O. Smith Model FPSH 40-261 hot water heater. It won't heat water. there is a green light on the control flashing. What does it mean?

AO Smith uses the Honeywell ICON gas valve with green indicator light.
Some models use White Rodgers Intellivent with a row of indicator lights.

The gas control blinks the error code:
