When a motor turns off after a few seconds of coming on then you have a bad motor.
Could be a bearing or windings but definitely the motor is bad if it is shutting off on you.

Can I change a part(s) e.g., impeller, to improve the pump efficiency?

Replacing the impeller could help, depending on the condition of the existing impeller. If it\'s worn and chipped, yes, replacing it will help. Is there a better impeller you can use? Probably not. The pump designer probably used the best available. How does it fit within it\'s compartment? Does it squeal or rattle? The tighter the tolerances - without rubbing - the more efficient it will be.

I think the next big thing in pump rehabilitation will be some sort of Teflon-imbued epoxy spray for resurfacing the impeller chamber and other interior surfaces. They\'re doing it with ceramic paints on iron pumps to good effect, but I haven\'t seen a similar solution for plastic pool pump housings yet.

You said you checked output pressure, but did you check motor output? It could be that the motor is getting tired and just not putting out the power to efficiently run the pump.

Yes there should be a check valve to keep the pump from draining when you open the basket. In lieu of that, you can turn the pump on for a couple of seconds to get some pressure, then turn it off, for a couple of seconds, then back on. This will suck some water up and then back-wash a little. The result is some water in the pump to help create the suction to get more water in the pump. This technique can be hard on the motor, but easier on the pump - you choose.

I think you have a failed start capacitor. Have your motor looked at by your professional pool supply.

Pool cover pump quit working without warning. was not in deep water. pump is clean, no cracks or compromised wire. air vent hole not plugged. tried in a couple different outlets (power source) then put in...

take the cover off of the automatic shut off and check for debris. Most cover pumps have an auto shutoff and most of them have the type of valve that can be inoperable due to debris getting into the valve.

Pool Pump won't turn on

Hi, this could be one of a couple of things, firstly check the pump is plugged in securly to the main panel, secondly, check the fuse inside the panel hasn't blown, third, there is a capacitor inside the connection box of the pump (where the mains lead goes in), this sometimes fails causing the pump to stop working, this should be replaced like for like. Good luck!!
