Yes, but for only 6 months at a time. Issues could be bigger than just reflux, (GERD, hiatal hernia, etc). Works by limiting protein in stomach. Issues, can be, with long term use, low levels or calcium, vitamin D, magnesium.
Dont take more than needed, can make issue worse if you take too much. This due to, you stomach needing juices to digest food, block too much of it and your body will go into over drive, and make some more. Not like a antacid, take before meals.
has worked great for me, but I have a hiatal hernia.
if you still have issues, get checkout.
good luck

Can you damage your esophagus if you drink baking and water too much?

Go to a doctor!!!!!!!!!!! you have chest pain for a reason, it is your bodies way of telling you, you need professional help. If it turns out to be acid reflux, try elevating the head of your bed frame about 4 inches this will allow the contents of your stomach to lie lower while you sleep. you should also not eat 3-4 hours before you go to bed/

Treatment of acid reflux?

L-glutamine powder. L-glutamine is an amino acid. A teaspoon of L-glutamine powder in four ounces of water takenwith each meal can help heal gastritis and even stomach ulcers. Do a search for research on this supplement if you want to find the studies. I know several people who were able successfully to wean themselves off Prilosec (which can lead to osteoporosis and other problems) by using this supplement. It's a naturally occurring substance--it's already in your body. After your esophageal epithelium heals you can stop taking glutamine and restart for short periods if the reflux recurs.

How to treat acid reflux

There are a number of ways to treat acid reflux. First, you should be examined by a doctor to find the cause of your acid reflux, which is usually done by an Endoscopy and/or a study with a bravo capsule. However, if you want to treat it with over the counter remedies, here are a few things that can help.

Start out with the light acid reducers such as Cimetidine, and liquids such as Gaviscon, Mylanta, or liquid Rolaids. Some people find that chewables work better for them such as Rolaids.

If you still have acid reflux after using the light acid reducers, then you will want to try some of the "big boys" in the acid reducer category. Finding the right one is difficult, as it's different for everyone. Most people have good luck with a course of Prilosec OTC while others find little effect and prefer to try Zantac. In our household my significant other uses Prilosec OTC and I use Zegerid, I have worse acid reflux problems than he does including GERD, Esophagitis, and a Hiatal Hernia while he just has reflux and stomach ulcers.

If you've tried everything mentioned here, and still have heartburn, it's definitely time to see a doctor, if you haven't done so already. Prescription medications such as Sucralafate can help heal your stomach and solve problems such as eroded stomach lining often caused by acid reflux.

Good luck to you!

What is Indigestion and Acidity and How it is Caused?

Acidity is nothing but excess secretion of gastric acid which is formed in our stomach to help us digest food. Secreted by special cells that line our stomach, this acid consists of hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride and potassium chloride. The main role of the gastric acid is to activate the various digestive enzymes in our stomach which help in breaking down the amino acids present in food particles.

During an acid reflux, the gastric acid comes up through the food pipe due to over-production or improper closing of the 'lower esophageal sphincter' muscle. The LES works like a valve between our food pipe and stomach, preventing food that has passed from coming back up. When acidity occur, the LES does not work as it should and allows acid to enter the esophagus, thus causing mild to severe irritation and chest pain. Zantec a good one?

Zantac works pretty good, it's not the cheapest on the market. If you are suffering heartburn frequently you should see your doctor who will prescribe something that gives longer lasting relief .

My doctor thinks acid reflux might be causing my cough. How does that work?

Acid reflux (also known as GERD) is when your stomach juice comes up your esophagus and irritate your throat, causing you to cough. You don't need to have heartburn to show that you are suffering from GERD. Sometimes the only symptom is the cough.
