How and where to place the sensing tape for auto reverse and continuous play

I have an AKIA GX260D and it has continuious play, so in order to achive tht function you need to in the forward play position place the sensing foil on the OUTSIDE away from the heads and just the opposite for reverse as thwere are sensing trips at either end of the tape path. Also clean everything regularly.

The sensing tape must be fitted at the end of the reel just before the coloured leader tape

SOURCE: I have an AKAI X-1810D tape deck that does not

Just a guess. Have you cleaned the two conductors on the sensor? You can test its function by running the tape in either direction and shorting it with a non-ferrous metallic object, say, an aluminum. You don't want anything magnetic near your prerecorded tapes.

SOURCE: Although I placed both ends the necessary sensing

I'm pretty sure the auto-reverse is NOT supposed to work during recording. What would be the point since it only records in one direction?

And I'm pretty sure there's only one reverse sensor, usually to the left of the heads and not necessarily on a tension arm. The sensor foil is supposed to be on the non-oxide side of the tape so it will adhere better and never contact the heads.

There's a knob for how the auto reverse. Is it set correctly? I believe infinite forward / backward play is possible if you have the knob set properly, a sensor foil on the tape and the tape counter set to 0000 at the beginning of the recording.
