Question about Canon EOS 600D Rebel T3i Digital Camera

Rebel T3i built-in flash does not fire

Flash won't fire no matter what setting or mode. It pops up when needed in Auto mode, but doesn't flash. Is there any sollution besides sending it off to Canon? Would updating the firmware (currently 1.04) do anything? TIA

Additionally, I do get the BUSY warning, but no error codes.

Thanks for replying, Art. We just received the camera yesterday. The shipping box showed no sign of impact and the camera shows no sign either. I already tried resetting the menu items to default. I tried all the letters on the mode dial and no flash. I recharged the battery even, but that didn't do it. If it's the flash board, as you say, does that mean it has to go off to Canon?

Most Canon DSLRs have a switch in the hot shoe (if you look under the spring plate in the hot shoe one one side there is usually a small white shaft sticking up from underneath the top cover). Sometimes because of spillage etc. this shaft sticks down and the camera thinks that there is an external flash installed so it won't operate the built in flash.
In your case I would be more suspicious of the flash board. Does the flash symbol in the viewfinder light up? When you fire the camera does the symbol go out but the flash doesn't fire? This is a pretty common sign of a bad flash board.
A third possibility would be a broken flash tube. Has the camera been impacted?
Put the camera's mode dial on 'P' and push the flash button on the side of the mount/front cover. Does the flash pop up? Does it fire now? On the P,A,S,M setting the flash fires all the time if it is popped up; if it is one the green rectangle or other setting it only fires if there is not enough light.
Finally reset the menu to factory default in case something is selected that is causing the flash not to fire.

This is an internal problem with the unit that opens the flash assembly and will require service.

My rebel t1i eos 500 built in flash won't pop up

Hi, I have to Canon Rebel t1i and I had the same problem (built in flash not working). I tried a number of remedies I found on forums etc but none worked. I then tried this. In the external flash housing is a metal sprung plate which surrounds the five circular pins (one big, four small at the rear). If you get a small straight headed screwdriver and lift the front of this plate and at the same time pull it back towards you it will come out altogether.
I then removed the four small screws being careful not to drop them and took off the mount for the external flash and then tried the flash it opened straight away. I then cleaned all the area of the mount and the two plates and replaced them all ensuring I fitted them exactly as before. I then checked the camera again and presto working fine. I hope this helps everyone with the problem.

I have a canon digital rebel xt with a speedlite 200e flash. The flash is not working in full auto mode, although the built in flash is. I have replaced the batteries in the flash and the ready light comes...

In auto mode, the flash works only if it is necessary. You are saying that the flsah doesn't work in auto mode, and I assume that in other modes it's working properly. That means there is nothing wrong with the flash. So don't worry about the flash, it will fire in necessary, in full auto mode.

Pop-Up flash - Rebel xti

You will need to send the camera for servicing. There's a lever mechanism inside the flash unit which is responsible for popping up the flash. Since it is a mechanical device, it is sometimes prone to failure. I suggest not to put manual pressure to force the flash to come out, as it may cause permanent damage. Instead, send the camera for service.
