Question about AIMS Electronics - Others
Just got this inverter brand new. When the battery cables are connected to it (with the inverter switched off) the fans begin running and don't stop. When I called tech support they said upon initial installation that the fans run sometimes ten to fifteen minutes. I let it go like that for at least 30 minutes and the fans never stopped (all the while the inverter never being switched on.) Tech support said this is definately wrong and should be sent back. I'm just reluctant because I'm afraid it's something simple I'm doing wrong. The instruction manual is overly vague. And input would be greatly appreciated.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The amp meter on this unit measures the battery current. So if you have an 8 amp load at 120 vac you will draw more than 80 amps at 12 volts and 40 amps at 24 volts. While this may not explain the 180 amps that you are seeing -- it's possible that the dryer is drawing more than 8 amps.

Waeco manufacture a rooftop A/C with a matching inverter.you will need to ensure that you have enough battery power when staionary but your al;ternator will provide power when mobile you could also use a small generator through a battery charger to keep your batteriesd charged up but this is not neccessary unless you are stopped for a long period of time.these units are fairly easy to install and come with fitting instructions for the A/C and wiring kits for the inverter..hope this helps

I did some more troubleshooting and figured out how to get the plate off that houses the switches. I disconnected the fan switch and created a safe electrical by-pass. I re-connected the main power supply and sure enough, the fan worked. Issue = defective switch. Currently looking to order replacement. Problem solved.

Don, There are two ways in which I would have satisfyied the 6 foot guide line. 1. Mounted the VECTOR under the hood. 2. Supplied the VECTOR with additional "bed mounted" battery to be charged via the present wiring with a two pole single throw "knife switch" as as the "connect/disconnect to the vehicle battery/alternator for charging the new battery. In any case, you should make it a twice yearly thing to inspect the 15 feet of wire now installed, for wear and tear faults that could result in sparks, smoke, fire. You may need to visit local electrical supply house to see what they have to offer in the way of small "breaker-boxes" that may be capable of handling such large GAGE wire. I MEAN #2 gage wire IS very thick and expensive per foot!!!! A disconnect box similar to type found mounted to brick-work and next to and connecting a 1.5 to 2 ton central air unit might do the trick. But anyhow, if you are not going to use the VECTOR disconnect the POSITIVE lead at the battery and tape the connector with electrical tape to be safe. Let me know how it works out for you. lmistyrel@ aim.com 12fixlouie
