Dewalt 18 Volt sparks

When I press the power there is a clear spark every time within the motor of the drill driver. There is a mild odor of burning. I just bought it new. Is this normal?

I have 3 drills, (2)14.4 and (1)18 volt Dewalt. the 14.4 drills starT to smell of burning and then smoke. One of the 14.4 drills seems to be less powerful. The 18 volt hammer drill is stuck in forward...

Well burning and smoke is either a switch or motor. Disconnect the motor and run it with battery voltage and no switch. If it's still slow and smokes it's the motor if not it's the switch. The other one sounds more like the switch but could be the motor. Testing would be the same as the other. On the 18 volt open it up and see if the reversing lever got hung up. It may be that you can line it back up and be ok. More likely it's a bad switch and needs to be replaced.
All these tools have static sensitive switches and need to be worked on at a static free work station.
Hope that helped..

I have a DeWalt DW927 cordless drill. It's lost

the brush assembly slides out of the back of the motor. I suggest going to Dewaltservicenet.com and downloading a breakdown for this tool before starting. I don't think that the brushes are going to be your only problem though.

18v dewalt battery gives off burning smell

18v is one of the newer models, correct? And the drill is new? If so there will be some smell as the motor breaks in. The srmsture is varnished as well as the windind for the commutator. The first few times it get s warm/warm from a heavy load, You will smell it. I would say there is nothing wrong at this point.Do not overload the motor and avoid drilling at low speeds. Use the variable trigger at low speed only for starting a hole. If you are driving screws start the screw, then full trigger driving it in. Good Luck, Ned

I have aa 18 volt Dewalt drill. When I put in a brand new battery with a full charge and run the drill, it discharges the battery in less than a minute. Is the motor shorted out?

I would have to think the motor, what does it sound like? Do you notice a burning odor, If you are not careful it might short out the new battery. Let me know and I will see what I can do

Motor turns but not the chuck

Not usually, the parts and labor come very close to the replacement cost. If you own an older model and have a lot of money invested into spare batteries, many of which are new, and the batteries won't fit a newer model; then you owe it to yourself to contact a service center and get a quote.

This is not true if the drill is under warranty. The cost in that case is the shipping and handling if required by the manufacturer.

Dewalt 18 volt compact drill

yes this is normal the spark keeps motor from stalling out by taking away the friction spark by making own spark
the clunk is the drill brake so you dont brake your hand when screw goes in all the way unlike old drills that kept going even when your hand was attached to it
