That fact that it is heating at all tells me the element is fine. You probably have some sort of air flow problem. I would clean it real good inside and out. I have manuals and a collection of dryer service tips here: Dryer problems and solutions

Dryer quit heating no power to element what is wrong?

The problem is most likely the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat. The thermal cut-off blows when the high-limit thermostat fails and since these parts are wired in series with the heating element, power to the heating element is therefore terminated. Check the continuity of the thermal cut-off and if it reads open, replace it along with the high-limit thermostat.

You can bypass the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat for troubleshooting purposes. Join together the wires of each part and insulate it properly then reconnect power. The two components indeed need to be replaced if the dryer heats up. If not and still no power to the heating element, check the continuity of the heating circuit. Check the continuity/resistance of the heating element if there's power to its terminals but doesn't heat. Replace the heating element if it reads open.

Let us know if you need further advice. Just indicate the exact model number of the dryer for accurate troubleshooting tips.

My dryer wont heat up or shut down

It's not heating up because the heating element is broken and should be replaced. It won't shut down because the thermostat isn't sensing heat and continues to run while expecting heat. So replacing the heating element should get it running properly.

My outside heat unit is frozen and it is 10 degrees out, will it thaw while I have it on emergency heat? How long do I keep emergency heat on?

Switching to emergency heat will not defrost the unit.

If the Heat pump is malfunctioning, continue to use the emergency heat until the unit can be repaired properly.

At ten degrees, no heat pump can keep up., but it should be automatically bringing on the heat strips as back up heat. (same thing as emergency heat, it's just automatic.)

Either the extreme cold is overloading the defrost system, due to lack of properly operating exterior temp sensors or the defrost is malfunctioning,

GE dryer won't heat, Has 240 volts at dryer plug and the heating coils have continuity.

You need to check the thermistor/thermostats...that may be your problem.
When they go bad, the will not let the heating element heat up to proper temp.
Good Luck,
Hope this Helps

Dryer has no heat

either your heating element or your thermostats are bad. on the heating element casing there are two thermostats. check the top one for continueity if it doesn't have continueity the change both thermostats. if they are good then check your heating element for continueity. after you get your dryer heating then clean out your vent system... if it's not venting properly then your dryer will take a long time to dry.

Clean light flashing

this is a safety failure of the unit not heating the water properly. if you push the " water heat, air dry, water heat, air dry" in that order, then it will go into the program mode and clear out that failure code.
then try the unit again, if you open the door during the heat cycle or it doesnt heat properly it will happen again. make sure you have hot enough water, 120 degrees, going to the unit and dont open the door after you start the cycle. if it continues call sears for service as it has a 1 year warranty.
