This is the only battery I found on Ebay
this is a little cheaper
Write the part number aha... into google and have a look around see if you can find cheaper ones if needed.

SOURCE: battery charging/laptop
The battery may be getting old/depleted OR some of the cells in the battery may be dead/malfunctioning.
The battery is probably still worth using for a while yet, though it will last a much shorter time than usual.
Alternatively, you could get a new replacement battery.
A remote possibility is that you are using a wrong charger for the laptop - it does not supply enough power to the battery. Please confirm it is correctly rated.
All the best!

Are you getting any of the power lights on? There should be a LED light showing "on AC power" and another showing "battery charge". It sounds like either the ac adapter is shorted out or the power jack in the laptop is broken. If you have a multimeter you can test the charger/adapter. Put the meter on DC volts and put the red lead on the center tip of the plug and the black lead to the outside metal of the plug. You should get from 18 to about 26 volts. If you don't get anything then the adapter is bad and will need to be replaced. If you do get the right voltage reading then the laptop jack is likely broken. You can get it repaired at most computer service depots.
I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.

SOURCE: Toshiba Laptop Wont Boot.
You mentioned the laptop "eventually shuts off", at what point does it do this?
other than that, I'd say you are on the right track- most likely (but not in all cases), the new AC adapter will probably not fix the problem. Offhand, it sounds like either the Motherboard is shorting out, or the component charging the battery is faulty to me. Either may require service by being sent to your laptop manufacturer or the store you bought it from.
It seems odd that the laptop is not starting up without a battery- most laptops i've looked at are capable of running on only AC power.
