I can't figure out how to change the record speed from SP to SLP with on my Sansui VCR. I'm using a universal remote. I can't change it to SLP when I'm time taping, but can't find out how to change it when I'm taping while watching.

What is model number of unit? Are you sure it records dvds?
SOURCE: VCR won't rewind
Soution #1 get nice but cheep VHS " rewind " macine.
2nd. Some machines have a special rubber wheel in the center, between the left [ take up or rewind ] & right [ play\record ] assemble. VERY diffiult to repair if u don't know what u are doing.
3rd. Find & REplace EVERY rubber band that u find in the machine.

you could have a separate record head that is working & a separat pay head that is misaligned or damaged.
What u are talking about is [OSD] On Screen Display, did you always have it?, Did it suddenly go away?

If you face the VHS tape with the back towards you, you should see on the left side a square opening with a TAB or piece of plastic that you can break off. If you DON'T see or feel this piece of plastic covering the square hole, then you won't be able to record. Take any kind of tape {usually 'Scott' plastic tape} or [anything] that will cover the hold. When you place the VHS tape into the VCR to RECORD a smell metal "finger" tryes to go into that hold that you pluged up and will tell the machine that you will be able to record.
If you can't record after that, then something is wrong with the machine.

The VCR is defaulted to SP and I want to record while watching on SLP. Time taping allows me to set the speed to SLP, but it defaults back to SP when recording while wtaching.
