What causes the ice maker to be loud

Hey Tony, thank you for you inquiry. I understand that your ice maker is a little louder than expected. Typically you will hear

ice cubes falling into the ice bin. Also, the ice maker fan, water valve activation & refrigerant gas may create sounds during IM operation. Please elaborate prior to your problem, are there any other symptoms before having this issue that I can try to further assist you with? If you can think of anything in particular, please feel free to reconnect. Best regards, JK

A loud airplane like sound is coming from the ice maker area. it goes away and comes back later

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you are hearing a loud airplane sound, intermittently coming from the ice maker, on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB. You will hear a buzzing sound as the water valve opens to fill the ice maker during each cycle. I suggest resetting your refrigerator, by either unplugging it or shutting the power of at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and try getting ice out of the dispenser. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

When the ice maker start to rotate there is very loud noise

Dripping sound.
During the defrost, water draining from the freezer section will drip into the pan by your compressor in the back and bottom of your refrigerator.
* Air rushing or blowing.
There is a fan in the freezer section and in some models in the back and bottom of your refrigerator to circulate air. This is a normal sound.
* Louder when starting or coming on.
Compressor operates at a higher pressure when first starting and noise should disappear as refrigerator continues to run and balance pressures.
* Popping, crackling, or sizzling about once a day.
If your model is self-defrosting, the defrost system utilizes a heater to remove the ice and frost from the freezer coil. During this period you will hear some expansion noises as heat is applied to the coil and you may experience some sizzling sounds as the melting water drips on the heater.
* Running water.
If you have an ice maker equipped model, the ice maker will call for water as the old batch of cubes is ejected and the ice maker starts to make more cubes. This will last for about 10 seconds and is normal.
* Vibrating or rattling noises

Frigidaire side-by-side model # FRS26H5ASB4 making humming or buzzing noise

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.
