Cement Mixer won't run or start

Is there power in the wall socket. Check with a lamp?
Does the motor get warm when plugged in for a while?

Does the motor have a starting capacitor? Look for a metal tube on the side an inch or so in diameter. Those are AC electrolytic capacitors that are a common failure item.

Hi, My cement mixer 240v supply lead has been pulled out of the connection box. Can anyone supply me with a wiring diagram. the only detail on the box is that it was made by POWERFLO drum capacity...

Do you still have the wire with plug end?
The mixer has a switch.
Is the mixer reverse-able?
Or is the mixer 2-speed?

What do you mean about 'one plug' and 'second plug?'

Buy cheap multimeter at hardware. Install battery. Set to read ohms.
Green wire is always ground.
Test each wire to each other.
For example if you test green wire to metal side of mixer, the meter will show full open circuit.
Test each other wire to each other wire. When voltage travels through the motor, then there will be ohm reading.
Move the switch to each position, and see which wires test differently.
Try to identify wires going to switch.

240Volts will have two hot wires.
One or both the Hot wires should connect directly to switch, depending if switch turns one hot wire on-off, or turns both hot wires on-off.
In a two speed system, or reversing system, the switch will send power to different coils on motor.

That would certainly be my first thought.

Before you go buying a new one though, I would just check that the brushes on the motor are moving freely in their carriers and that they're not excessively worn

The chopping mechanism, which should turn freely, is "frozen" & won't turn. not even manually.

I'm assuming that this isn't happening on an model in which the bowl can be detached - otherwise the plastic bushing has melted and glued the shaft to the base of the mechanism - it will have to be replaced. You can find one on the Breville site
select yours and you will find it in the Parts &Accessories tab.
The mixer has an plastic bushing on the shaft of the chopping mechanism that is there to connect it to the shaft of the motor. If that bushing or the bearing of the shaft got damaged in any way the entire mechanism will lock out.
To find out what exactly happened you will need to dismantle the mixer - take out the 4 screws on the bottom, unclip the power wire, remove the supports of the motor and pull it out for inspection. Parts from older models can be obtained only from a dealer, you will have to contact one and order it .

My machine simply won't turn on .

Obtain a copy of the Repair Part List for your model from
Download a Copy of the Kitchenaid Service manual.
Remove both Brush Holder Caps (34), one on each side of the
Gearcase Motor Housing (1). The Carbon Brushes (29) are keyed
and designed to go into the Housing but only one way. Both must
make contact with the Motor Coils in order for the Motor to turn.
If they are improperly inserted or too worn out (replacement is
required) then your mixer will not run.

Won't turn on

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at
On each side of the Motor Housing(1) is the large black Brush Motor
Cap(23). Each Carbon Brush(19) is keyed (one corner is not square)
and is designed to go into the Motor Housing slot but only one way.
Each Carbon Brush must make contact with the Motor Coils. The
motor will not turn if one or both does not come in contact with the coils.
If the brushes are too worn out, of course they won't touch the coils
neither and your motor will not run. You can purchased new brushes
on Ebay if they need to be replaced.

Hello, We have a mini cement mixer that fell over while turning. It rolled a ways and then stopped. Now the motor seems to be running fine, but it won't turn. Where do you think I should start...

I would find out if it is belt or direct drive. Either way check to see if it put gears out of alignment or idler pulley so that belt can not engage. It may have jarred the motor so that it needs repositioned. At least with the motor runningit sounds to me like you just moved or bent something out of position and it won't be too hard to repair. Good luck and thank you.
