First thing to try is to stick the disc into a PC. It will either read no disc, or ignore that there is a disc there; or it may load the disc fine and either autorun or come up with a "what action do you want to take/disc format not recognised" type of message. If a PC will not read the disc, first check it visually for scratches - in particular near the centre, and especially if the scratch is going around the disc not across it. If nothing big visible, then try cleaning the disc with a soft damp cloth, a little water and some detergent - if you have to rub, go from the centre outwards not round and round. Try the disc again in your Garmin. If this doesn't work, check the foil side of the disc for damage - look real close. If there is any, then there are not many ways to fix it that are often successful or that will last for long. next to see is if you can polish any scratches out. Use a fine abrasive polish like Brasso with a soft cloth (not on the foil side). Start with the worst looking scratch, see if it will soften or polish out. Try the disc, then keep polishing each scratch in turn to see if you can get it working. You can buy little machines that do similar by polishing the whole disc, but they are normally more agressive than you need if scratches are the problem. If still no luck, then try Garmin for a replacement CD; sorry I couldn't find any details on their site now (it's a huge site), but they used to replace damaged discs so long as you paid the postage and sent them a damaged legal copy first. Possibly now they do the same by download - check with them for a quick answer - their service is normally good. Please ask again if you need more info. Hope this helps :)

When trying to put in an address the Garmin asks me for a country and then does not accept it after typing in the first letter. The other functions appear to be ok.

you need to update your map

Purchase your map updates (if necessary). You can purchase map updates for your Garmin Nuvi from the Garmin website. There are two basic options: a lifetime purchase or a one-time upgrade. The lifetime purchase gives you access to any new updates for the life of your device, while the one-time upgrade will provide you with the latest current maps, but you'll need to purchase again if you want to upgrade again later.

Make sure to log in with your myGarmin account before purchasing the map upgrade.

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades.

Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices.

Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer.

Download and install Garmin Express. This is the program that allows your computer to interact with your Garmin Nuvi.

Register your device in Garmin Express. If you haven't already registered your device, you'll be prompted to when you start Garmin Express. You'll need to register in order to update the maps.

Click the "Updates" tab in Garmin Express. This will show all of the available updates for your Nuvi, including the new map update you just purchased.

Click the "Show Details" option next to your Map Update. Click the "Install" button that appears. You will need to accept the agreement before the update installs.

Wait for the maps to download and install. Once you agree to the terms, the map update will begin downloading to Garmin Express, and will then be transferred to your Nuvi. This will likely take several minutes to complete.

unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

You can download garmin express here

The unit should still operate even though the map is old. If you press the OK button and nothing happens, most likely the touchscreen is bad and needs to be replaced. An old map should not stop you from using the device.

To update your satnav you first need to register it if you haven't already done so. To register:
  • Connect your satnav to a computer
  • Go to
  • Click the Choose Your Country box and select Ireland.
  • Click myGarmin
  • Click register your garmin product and follow the prompts
You'll be asked to create a username and password. Write them down and keep them safe as you'll need them again anytime you want to update your maps.

When you've registered go to myGarmin and click on myMaps.
If there's an update available it will say so beside your map name. Click on Update Available and follow the prompts.

You'll need broadband to download the map. The map of europe is about 4Gb. If you don't have it you'll have an option to buy a dvd version.

When the map is downloaded you'll be asked if you want to launch the installer. Click yes or you can double click the file later. Installing the map of europe takes 3 to 4 hours and for the first 20 mins or so it appears that nothing is happening but it is. Once you've started don't interrupt it.

I am trying to load the 2008 map update to my c330 unit but nothing happens. I get a no active connection error when using the dvd and from mapsouce I get a no memory error when it is supposed to save over...

First, some questions:

A. Is the unit turned on and plugged in via the USB?
B. Is the USB connection active?
C. Have you downloaded the USB drivers to the machine you are using?

You can only load one region on the C330. It will not hold the entire update. That is why you are having problems loading it via Mapsource. There is a way to load the second region onto and SD card for use, though.
