Question about Garmin StreetPilot i5 GPS Receiver
First thing to try is to stick the disc into a PC. It will either read no disc, or ignore that there is a disc there; or it may load the disc fine and either autorun or come up with a "what action do you want to take/disc format not recognised" type of message. If a PC will not read the disc, first check it visually for scratches - in particular near the centre, and especially if the scratch is going around the disc not across it. If nothing big visible, then try cleaning the disc with a soft damp cloth, a little water and some detergent - if you have to rub, go from the centre outwards not round and round. Try the disc again in your Garmin. If this doesn't work, check the foil side of the disc for damage - look real close. If there is any, then there are not many ways to fix it that are often successful or that will last for long. next to see is if you can polish any scratches out. Use a fine abrasive polish like Brasso with a soft cloth (not on the foil side). Start with the worst looking scratch, see if it will soften or polish out. Try the disc, then keep polishing each scratch in turn to see if you can get it working. You can buy little machines that do similar by polishing the whole disc, but they are normally more agressive than you need if scratches are the problem. If still no luck, then try Garmin for a replacement CD; http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/supportcontacts sorry I couldn't find any details on their site now (it's a huge site), but they used to replace damaged discs so long as you paid the postage and sent them a damaged legal copy first. Possibly now they do the same by download - check with them for a quick answer - their service is normally good. Please ask again if you need more info. Hope this helps :)
