Thanks for the quicktime tip lorenzo39! A look at the manual states that the video is AVI (MJPEG). The easy to find morgan codec is good but it's a 60 day try-before-you-buy situation, not really useful if you just want to watch/edit your home videos. I found a couple of freeware codec packs with MJPEG, but this seemed like the most recent/ best:

Windows media player has trouble with it, but VirtualDub works great. Fine, I'll playback in quicktime, edit in VirtualDub and avoid Microsoft alltogether!

The camera does record sound, it's not on mute but it doesn't have audio playback on the camera and when trying to play it on the computer you need to download an additional codec.
The only program I've found that plays the video & audio without any problems is Quicktime, so try using this. In order to use Windows Media Player you need to track down the upgraded codec, but unfortunately I can't give you a direct link for that, it's annoyingly difficult to track down!

I think your card is damaged. Try connecting to your computer and check available space. Take a backup and format it from your PC, check if it is formatting completely.

If the card is not Class 10 you will also have problem recording movie from a camera. You need a high speed card to record video.

The camera did not record voice of movie when I use the optical zoom

From page 80 of this manual: "Optical zoom blocks sound being recorded when zooming."

Many cameras do this as otherwise the recording will include the sound of the lens being zoomed. There are two possible workarounds for this: 1) Don't use the optical zoom while recording. 2) Use an external sound recorder to record the soundtrack and mix them together on the computer.

You can take video clips but the camera doesn't have a microphone so there is no sound.

Hi
You have to install the drivers for your Camera, before you can doanload, view or copy the stored pictures or videos in your PC. Here are steps in sequece to follow

1- Use the CD which came with your camera and install the drivers. If you do not have the CD, you may be able to download them from the website of your Camera manufacturer.

2- After installing the drivers, Connect your camera to your PC, select play and turn your camera on.

3- Follow the screen untill your PC finishes installing the drivers and say it is ready

4- Now click start, then computer. If the drivers are installed correctely, you would see an icon with all of part of DXG Technology DXG-506V. Double click on that icon. You would see one or more folders with your stored pictures and videos.

You can view, download, delete or copy any of the saved pictures or videos.

Can't hear audio on video playback (neither direct from camera nor from pc)

This is because the camera is not capable to record the sound. The camera was not designed with any audio speakers to be able to record and playback sound recorded during movie mode.

Transfer movie from mini tape to computer - JVC.....well, hello i found that people have the same problem i do i;ve got this JVC digital camera GR-D770U...and unfirtunately i don't have a software disc...

You can download user manual in PDF format from this link:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/JVC/GR-D770U-_E
but that's not a point. The point is that you can use any video editing software (with no driver), that accepts capture mode starting from standard Windows Movie Maker for beginners to CyberLink PowerDirector, Ulead DVD MovieFactory or similar. This can be made by plugging your camcorder to PC via USB or FireWire (iLink, IEEE1394). Of course you can record to Digital Video Unit Equipment (DVD recorder) if you have one. Good luck!

DV-PC recorder

DV-PC Recorder is a Windows XP only application that enables you to record images and sound on the tape in the camcorder and on the computer's hard disk by connecting a camcorder equipped with the DV CONTROL function to a computer using an IEEE1394 (DV) cable. DV-PC Recorder has the following features. 1. You can record movies simultaneously on your computer's hard disk and on the tape by pressing the start/stop button on the camcorder. 2. It enables long, continuous recordings, which you cannot achieve with the tape alone. (Approximately four and a half hour's worth of recording will fit on a 60GB hard disk.) 3. You can start editing the movies on the computer right after recording, as the images and sound are saved on the computer's hard disk. (Optional editing software is required to edit movies) 4. You can record movies on the tape in the camcorder and on the computer's hard disk by controlling the DV-PC Recorder from your computer.
