My email address is Incidently on second inspection of the electrolytic capacitors,I discovered one of them has 2 small pin holes in the top cap and it is labeled 3300@10v (C202) on board.I am going to test that one first, none of the others show any sighs.

Hi Elgs, With which instrument you're going to check this capacitor? Will you please give any hit to me? What do you see is not true; my friend. Without knowing anything, do not try to make it distroyed.

You can't do this work. Understand it well. You've no idea. This is not as an easy work as to replace a bulb in a holder. Do you know what this 3300MFD means? Can you answer me? This is not a job that a hair cutter can do. You must have some in electronics. Do you know the meaning of word electronics?

Check this site, and see what you can do with your set.

  • Elgs May 05, 2013

I've been checking my inbox for the schematic diagran which you said you would send, and have not seen it yet,I told you in my last post the the electrolytic capacitor I refered to has 2 holes on the aluminium cap which is similar to a blown capacitor.

  • Elgs May 13, 2013

I thank you for your insulting remark posted on 3rd May. I've replaced the capacitor located at C202 and that solved the problem set is back to normal

It is probably the capacitors on the power supply. Check them. I think there are 3 in a row. They are red in color and 450W. There is also a larger one next to them but I do not remember the volts.

The 5vdc standby is working but not the 12 or 24v?
You need to find out if the power supply board is getting PS_ON signal from the main board to turn on the 12/24vdc power supply section.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.

  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Did you check for the "ON" or "PS ON" signal on the power supply board? It should be around 3.3vdc.This signal comes from the main board, it commands the other sections of the power supply to come on and turn on the TV set. This signal should be present when you press the power button from either the TV or remote. If you are not getting this signal from the main board, you're most likely dealing with a main board failure. If you are dealing with a main board failure, take heed, some Vizio main boards can be expensive.

Required output voltages from an acoustic solution lcd television power supply unit

Only the original supply is going to work---schematics with voltages and wave forms are rarely available online except to a authorized service center for that brand---they want to SELL REPLACEMENT boards and not have someone fix them.

Amp MC-D80. No Indication of power on.Checked power supply board(no schematic). No + or - 12v. All other voltages seem ok. Any known common failure? Thanks Art

Simply follow the 12v supply back to where it starts, which should be where the transformer wires join the PC Board. If you don't have 12v AC there the transformer has gone. If you do, then follow it with your multimeter till it goes. That will lead you to the culprit.

I would test your power supply to see if you are getting voltage to the main circuit board. They have a high failure rate.

Same vizio problem.

You have to check the Vs on from main board that control the power supply. This voltage must be constant all the time when TV is on. If not, main board problem. Try to isolate problem by unplug all cable connected to inverter, Time cotroller, etc...and measure voltage at the p.sup board each time when you re-connect cables back. If the board has Vson, so the suspection now is the inverter if you do not see back light.

Sound with no picture..backlight working

This failure could be due to a backlight inverter board or the power supply is not providing the 24 volts to it.
The way to fix it is by measuring the voltages from the power supply to the backlight inverter board, if the voltage is present then the backlight inverter board is defective and will need to be replace. If the voltage is lower then 20 volts, then is a power supply failure.
Click here to find the backlight inverter board.

Busted component

Getting a schematic is rather doubtful. You might be able to get a general idea of the circuit from somewhere on the 'net.

Was the power supply dead?

ATX style power supplies have both a standby and main section. The standby supplies a low current +5 volts to a small portion of the motherboard.

If the component failure is in this section, this standby voltage will be missing or incorrect, and the computer will be dead- won't power on at all.

I've seen a number of catastrophic failures in this standby circuit, and repair isn't suggested or economically feasible, especially as some parts often poof beyond identification.

When the pwr button is pushed, the main section comes on, and supplies +5 (Red wires), +12 (Yellow wires), +3.3 (Orange wires), -5, -12. Look here for this info

Voltages are precisely regulated, and any substantial deviation (more than a few 10ths of a volt) indicate a problem, especially on the +5 & +3.3 lines.
