I can not scan using my HP color laserjet 2840
Sometimes what happens is that the software installed on your computer, relating to the printer will become sort of confused. Re-install the software after a quick un-install of the same software. You can get the software from either a disc or from the Web Site of the scanners manufacturer.
Sometimes updating the USB Drivers will be needed. Do that by visiting the maker of your computer and search for Drivers and Updates on their Web Site, look for 2.0 USB drivers class, download that package to your desktop. The driver might be in the form of a Zip FIle. In that case, unzip the files using standard WinZip program or use software provided by computer, to a folder called cab. The driver program might show preference were it wants to unzip to. If so, let it do its thing. Then afterwards find the folder (cab or other folder) run USB driver by clicking install exe file. Note that all periperials need to be unconnected from all USB ports ( the port the laser printer connects to the computer at ) before updating USB drivers. So check cables for solid reconnection after installing drivers.
Its important to recognize the version of the operating system you own. You'll find that information by clicking on Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel > System.
After doing this update, an reconnecting the power and USB cables. Check the operation of the scanner table itself.
Verify that there is nothing wrong with the light bulb belonging to the scanner. To do this have the cover up of the scanner table (if there is a cover) and press scan button, the program should initialized on your desktop, the the light should turn on (look for a light turnning on) and after a few seconds (or more) somethiing should start moving indicating the scanner is working properly. If you think the scanner is defective contact HP.
Good luck, jasahasch
