Question about HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook

2 Answers

Video output HELP!!!! I have 3 laptops that boot but show no video output regardless of the source. I will ask each one in a separate forum so it does not get confusing. Thank you. HP Pavilion DV6 . Odd thing is that there is no license information on the back of the laptop to determine the exact model or serial number. I have never seen a laptop like that. The only license information is for windows.

Does it boot? You say "shows no video"? Do you mean the screen doesn't show anything at boot? Black screen? Nothing?

SOURCE: HP Pavilion DV4000 laptop screen only showing as 4:3 aspect ratio

Have you changed the resolution?
Go to control panel, display, settings, and make sure the resolution is set to more. Click on the advanced button and choose the tab for graphics or the graphics controller, choose properties, and adjust the screen area.
Please also consult this link recommended setting for HP notebooks. (click here)
If that doesn't do it, is there a possibility that the wrong driver has been installed. You can check the original product specs at hp.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion N5425 Password Reset

a password just switching on automatically i have not heard before. usually bios passwords have to be turned on and set in the bios. if you are working with a machine that has a system/bios password the only alternative is to contact hp and let them assist you. be mindful they will ask for you to verify ownership and possibly even provide a purchase receipt. this is to prevent theft of laptops. if the unit is out of warranty, they may even charge you. in the event this is a windows logon password there is nt password reset software that can allow you to reset the administrators passwords. so...if the password comes on immediately and does not allow you to proceed to windows you need to contact hp. there really is not easy way around the bios password with a laptop.

goodluck!

SOURCE: HDMI, and VGA on HP Pavilion dv6 1359wm, S-Video

you need something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/VGA-to-S-Video-RCA-Adaptor/dp/B000P3UB24 - but you may also need to see if the VGA display adapter supports the output, sometimes this also needs to be enabled to get it to work - other times it works just by using the VGA output switch - which will be one of the F keys look for a symbol of a screen and then use that F key and the FN key together to toggle the output from <laptop only><laptop and VGA output><VGA only>not necessarily in that order. The HDMI is a digital signal out and to convert to analogue for the TV will need an expensive convertor

SOURCE: HP Pavilion DV1000 drivers...

I found the problem to be a rather simple but frustrating one....when is an HP dv1000 not a dv1000....almost always!! You cannot get the correct downloads based on the model number on the tag. You must specify the PRODUCT NUMBER on the HP download site from the tag, not model. You can enter the general DV1000 and get to the download page and look for the entry "Not your Product?!" Follow that link and enter the PN from the tag....download those and you will get drivers that work with your unit. My "DV1000" was actually a DV1660!!!!

How do I get channels on my Emerson tv with dvd? I have tried everything I could think of and I only get channel 23 and that is kinda grainy looking.

I don't understand the question. Why do you need channel settings for the DVD? Are you asking what channel to play the DVD on? It won't be a TV channel, it will be a separate video input source setting, usually found on the remote. The TV may show Video 1 or HDMI for the source in order to watch an external source like DVD.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output usually located on the back, if picture okay! the problem is the inverter board, or the backlight behind the LCD screen. But if both show the same it is the Video Graphics Card normally built into the motherboard.

I want to hook up my CD-BA2100 to my Inspiron 6000 laptop but i don't know how to hook it up or what to use.

The SHARP CD-BA2100 is a "stand-alone" cassette/CD/AM/FM player.

Its manual states that it can accept left/right stereo audio output, such as from your laptop, if you purchase the correct adapter cable (from "line-out" or "head-phones-out" on your laptop):

Video/Auxiliary (Audio signal) input

To listen to or record signals from external sources through this unit:
1 Use a separately available RCA cord to connect the desired external unit to the VIDEO/AUX jacks. (red ® right channel, white ® left channel) * When using video equipment (Laser Disc player or VCR), be sure to connect the audio output to this unit, and the video output to a television.
2 Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the power on.
3 Press the VIDEO/AUX button.
4 Operate the external unit.
5 To record the sound from the external unit ...

i.e., you can use it as the speakers for your laptop, instead of the laptop's tiny, built-in, speakers.

I can't find how to send a signal to my tv, from my laptop, through an s-video cable..?? I am a novice operator, so please be specific with instructions..!!! 07gentleman@gmail.com

I will try to help you, based on what I do with my own Panasonic 50" television. First step is to locate the S-Video output connector on your Lenovo; plug an S-Video cable into this connector. Locate one of the several S-Video inputs located on the back, side and/or front of your television, select the chosen input source (usually Video 1, Video 2, maybe Video 3.
Once this input is selected, your computer should be showing the video on the television, and you should be good to go. The television ought to be able to display the computer's signal, but if not you can try to reset the Display Resolution to something like 1024x768 or even 800x600. This answers your question!

Change video output to s vedio connection

If the computer does not easily and automatically show the computer screen on the tv through the S-video output, make sure the tv is switched to S-Video and Hold down the Fn + F5 keys to toggle through the video output manually on the laptop. Just make sure that only one video source is connected at a time. Your laptop will not support two output sources at the same time. Below is the user manual in which it discusses the use of an external device on page 70.

Can't see the bios or dual boot option on my brandnew monitor!!

Have you replaced the VGA video cable (thick cable with many pins). Do you have TWO video outputs ? One on the main board and one video card. If the BIOS is set to run off main motherboard video, the video card output won't work. If you have a video connector on the motherboard (by the printer connection and USB plugs) plug it in there. You must set BIOS to use separate video card.

No picture from monitor out on Onkyo TX-DS898

I realize you may have already doubled checked but make sure you follow this from the manual:
If the satellite tuner / cable box is equipped with an S video output
terminal, connect it to the S VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminal with an S
video cable. If it does not have an S video output terminal, connect
its video output terminal to the VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminal using an
RCA-type video connection cable. You do not need to connect to
both the S VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN and VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminals. If
the satellite tuner or television has component video outputs,
connect them to one of the COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT jacks.
With the initial settings of the TX-DS898, the VIDEO 3 and
VIDEO 4 input sources are set for the COMPONENT VIDEO
INPUT 2 jack.
If the video connection is made at COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT
1, this must be changed at the Setup menu: Input Setup → Video
Setup → Component Video (see page 35).
Using an RCA-type audio connection cable, connect the audio
output terminal on the satellite tuner or television to the same
VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN audio jacks on the TX-DS898. Make sure that
you properly connect the left channel to the L jack and the right
channel to the R jack.
If the device has a digital output jack as well, be sure to also connect
it to either a DIGITAL INPUT (COAXIAL) or DIGITAL INPUT
(OPTICAL) jack on the TX-DS898 depending on the device.
With the initial settings of the TX-DS898, the VIDEO 3 input source
is set for digital input at the OPTICAL 3 jack, and the VIDEO 4
input source is set for digital input at the OPTICAL 4 jack.
If the digital connection is made at a different jack, this must be changed
at the Setup menu: Input Setup → Digital Setup (see page 33).

My display is garbled. I can hardly read the letters because of characters which shows up. Is the video card separate or integrated with the motherboard? Are there available video cards or motherboards...

I don't know any laptops that have separate video cards, they are integrated with the motherboard.
To test if the video card is faulty, connect an external monitor to the laptop's external video connector/port and boot up your laptop. The external monitor may automatically display images, if not you may have to press the blue Fn key plus one of thr function keys to switch the video output to this video port. If you see a clear image the the Video card is OK and the LCD is faulty.
Is the display garbled or it is very dim?
If it is dim and the image is OK then the problem is associated with the backlight. It could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the CCFL lamp is faulty and 80% of the time it is the CCFL lamp.
The inverter is easy to replace but the CCFL lamp requires more work and soldering skills.

S-Video Problem.

You need the isolate the problem:

1) Plug the DVD player into a TV
through the same S-Video cable

If the movie plays on the TV, then
the DVD player and cable are OK.

2) Plug another source of S-video signals
(if you have one) into the computer input.

If it works, than the computer hardware & software are OK

3) The third and most likely possibility is that the DISK is
copy protected, and the obedient DVD player is adding
MACROVISION analog copy protection into the S-video
output stream.

S-Video is an analog video format that has two separate
channels: 1 for composite B&W video (i.e. Y, or luminance)
and the other for the color (Chroma). Sound is separate.

Macrovision analog protection technology corrupts the
vertical synchronization and blanking pulses within the B&W
video stream,

which confuses the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry
of most VCRs. Bill Clinton passed a bill callsed the

"Digital Milenium Act", which makes such garbage VCRs
compulsory within the US.

Macrovision also adds digital pulses into the invisible
scan lines of the output video stream, which are recognized
by DVD recorders, and possibly your computer, such that
they will refuse to accept or record the movie.

Often a macrovision message comes up.

4) Finally, if the video is fine and you don't have
Macrovision problems, there is a strong chance
that your computer's device drivers are not installed
or configured properly, or there is a hardware problem
within the computer.

In either case, the computer manufacturer (tech support)
should be obligated to resolve this issue (4)

5) Inexpensive Macrovision remover boxes are
widely available by searching Google.

Hope this helps
