Question about Video Game Consoles & Games
Hello there If you have the red blinking light then you have the RED light of death AKA the RLOD. The light is a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the RLOD. WHERE TO GO FROM HERE Option 1 - Call Sony In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you Option 2 - which i did for my Light of death issue was i sent it to VideoGame911.com and got it back within the week, i was out of warranty w Sony and now i have a warranty with them and they did not charge as much. Good luck!

SOURCE: flashing red light
"that scratchy noise" is indicative of a overheating RSX processor. when the thermal sensors under the processor of the PS3 are tripped, you get the green/red/yellow light sequence. I always tell customers its best to shut off the machine and fix the problem ASAP. if you continue to use the unit whilst overheating (if you get it to even turn on that is) you can possibly short circuit the solder joints of the BGA array and damage the uit forever. Not even SONY can fix it at this point unless the unit is reflowed, which renders the unit very unreliable anyway. reflowing rarely works for a long periods of time so SONY just replaces the unit for 150plustax with a refurb and you could wait for weeks. i usually apply thermal compound and add shims to ensure proper cooling of the two processors..the RSX and the CELL

You'll have to contact Sony for repair. I would highly recommend you NOT trying to fix this problem yourself.
You can reach Sony at 1-800-345-Sony
Or google: rescuetechla for my blog page on some common ways to fix the problem. (most of them won't work for most consoles, but if you want to try, you're more than welcome.)

switch it off from the back,, hold down the eject button, and turn it on from the back,, it should spit the cd out,,
The ps3 needs to be sent back to be fixed it is YLOD..<--not good
it will take at least 4-6 weeks before you get your Console back. And also, if your warranty is expired, you have to pay a big fat $150,- to get the job done!
or go to youtube and look for a PS3 Ylod fix,,

SOURCE: disc will not eject
Disc stuck is not a big issue. Don't waste money to find someone to fix it yet! It may be a minor issue that you can be fixed by yourself.
Remember, you are not the only one to suffer this problem! Because I had help so many people to fix the same problem now. You are so lucky to be there. I share a guide for you - It make me like a pro to help my friends and many people. It is too expensive to send back to Sony repair if your machine is out of warranty!
I had solved the same problems after bought this guide. The author of the book is really kind and helpful to his customers. May be you can buy it and share what you have learned !
