Officejet 7310 HP

When sending a fax while feeding it into machine I hear a loud hum and fax stops. I get power failure report that it was not completed because of power failure. It prints fine and receives and copies also. Just will not fax makes loud spining/humming noise.

I have the exact some problem.

I am getting a scanner failure when I try to fax. First it happened when I used the paper feeder, now it happens when I place a document on the glass. I can print or copy but the scanner 'jams' as soon as I try to fax. It reports it as a power failure. This just started happening in the last few weeks, it worked fine before that.

When trying to send a fax directly from the 7310 printer I get a loud noise and the error message "scanner or power failure, turn power off and turn on." However, I can send a fax from the 7310 glass by going through the HP Director software on the computer and all other functions of the printer work flawlessly.  I have been in email contact with HP tech support but as usual, these towel heads obviously know less than I do because they just keep running me in circles and will not answer any questions I ask them.  Has anyone else had this problem??

Once I hit start fax black, the feeder takes the first page about 20% in to feeder and then stops, makes screeching noise and reads "error scanner failure" turn power off, then on.

Aftewr turning power off, then on, it spits out a failed fax page.

I have the same problem. Problem is mainly when using the fax feeder, but sometimes when faxing from the glass. Also happens sometimes, but not always, when enlarging images being copied. There is a loud whirr noise, and then failure. If faxing, I get an error message that says to turn off power, then a fax page complaining of power failure. The whirring noise sounds like a belt is slipping and then something is free spinning inside the machine. This appears to me to be mechanical, not in the electronics. I'm tempted to try to open the machine and clean things, but don't want to permantly wrecj whatever printer function I still have. Printer works fine. Incoming fax works fine. Most copy functions work fine. It mainly outgoing fax and enlargements that cause the problem.

Follow the steps below to perform a fax diagnostics test. 1. Set up the all-in-one for faxing according to the setup instructions found in the product's User's Guide. 2. Make sure you have inserted the print cartridges and loaded paper before starting the test. 3. Press Setup, 6, and then 6. This displays the Tools menu and then select Run Fax Test. The HP all-in-one displays the status of the test on the color graphics display and prints a report. 4. Review the report. * If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems. * If the test fails, review the report for more information on how to fix any problems found. 5. After you pick up the fax report from the all-in-one, press OK. Then turn the printer off, and then on again. If necessary, resolve any problems found and rerun the test. If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.

Unable to send or receive fax over vonage/dsl

I also have vonage and this fax macine - the incoming fax was going to vonage answering machine.

I went to setup (that little button above and to the right of the OK button to "basic fax setup" and changed my rings to answer from 5 to 2. This will work for me, because I only set it to auto answer when I know a fax is inbound - you might want to adjust so you can aswwer a call if you do not have a dedicated fax line.

Good luck

Hello, I have an HP OfficeJet 7310 all-in-one print/scanner/fax etc. I purchased about two years ago but don't use very often. Yesterday while I was trying to send a fax I received a loud winding-up...

I have same problem! The copy/scan function would feed the orginal from the ADF halfway and instead of making a normal loud feeding noise it made a horriable alarming sound and displayed an error message. To fix it: I waited a day or two and bang the top of the feeder cover with normal force while the original is feeding. It appeared the problem is resolved. I have no idea what the problem is, however I think if this work for few months at a time is fine by me.

Did anything happen prior to the issue? It almost sounds as if the DC controller (main board) has gone bad. What happens if you try to make a copy on it?
