Have you done ANY updates? Are you on Battery power? Open the control Panel, select Power Options(Vista) Display(XP), do you have XP or Vista?, XP:http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_overview_w.mspx?mfr=true Vista, Power Options, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms700612(v=vs.85).aspx If on battery your laptop will din the display to conserve battery power. It could be the components are going bad, age. Have you cleaned the fan, vents, heatsink recently?
